We partnered with Babes with Blades for the launch of Nike Shox Z at Nike’s Shox no brakes event. We wanted to give you a little look at some shots from the event and bring you a Q&A with Ayesha and Jade from the collective…
- Talk us through how BWB began and a bit about the early days
Jade Ang Jackman: As I grew up on Hong Kong action cinema, I wanted to connect with the next generation of pan-Asian women who were journeying into stunts. This led me to Ayesha and as all good stories start, I slid into her DMs.
Ayesha Hussain: I refuse to give you more context than; she trusted me to throw a knife inches away from her the first time she pointed a camera at me and now we have become bonded for life
- How important is it to have communities like BWB in today’s society?
AH: In a world where women are told there’s only room for one of you to be successful, uniting over wanting to elevate each other and our stories has never been more important, especially in a field we’ve constantly been decentred from i.e. action and sport. With the rise of fascism and ozempic culture, also wanting to reframe how we look at archetypes for women’s bodies, is so important. We firmly believe beauty is in strength and want women to know whether you’re 5 or 50 strength is beautiful.
- What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received
BWB: Send it!
- What has been the biggest achievement to date?
AH: being the first south asian Xman is probably a huge one. But also getting to sit on Katy O brian’s lap (respectfully) and get shot in the head on the running man is up there
JAJ: Getting my motorbike license and starting development on my feature film about a female rally driver…
- How important is it to partner with brands like Nike & OFFICE?
JAJ: Working with brands have the potential to reach a wide range of women is always guna be exciting to us
- What is your favourite way to style the Nike Shox Z?
AH: With tailoring
JAJ: I’ve worn them with a Liberty Rose mini-skirt but also with a tracksuit
- How would you describe your personal style?
AH: If Adam Sandler and Julia Fox had a baby
JAJ: Dress to be paired with a red Ducati
