Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Hi my name is Danielle Oreoluwa Jinadu, I am digital content creator, disability advocate and future lawyer.

My work and purpose is very much about advocating for different groups of people. As an intersectional babe, I aim to show people that black disabled women are worthy of your time and attention and can exist and thrive in a world that posses many different barriers for people like myself. In whatever space we exist in, I want to support people in having the tools of self advocacy to best represent themselves.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?

Nothing that is meant for you can be taken from you. So don’t compete. Just continue to make moves as your authentic self and it will ALL work out. There are doors open and just waiting for you to walk through them, so walk through them. Don’t let fear rooted in comparison steal anything from you.

Your favourite memories/ achievements in 2022?

Being included in GUAPS BLACKLIST in collaboration with Adidas, was insane. To be highlighted one of 30 under 30 black people in the U.K. not just in the creative space but across all industries doing amazing work! That was truly a blessing and I’m so grateful. And then seeing my face in Piccadilly Circus on the biggest advertisement display in Europe – yeh that was insane.

Finally having my graduation ceremony two years after graduating from Warwick Law School. Was a beautiful day and really fulfilling moment cause I worked hard for that degree.

Tell us more about your experience on TEDx and Sickle Cell Anaemia

I was born with Sickle Cell Anaemia, it is a genetic blood disorder that exists in mainly Black African & Afro-Caribbean people and it’s also the world most lethal genetic blood disorder.

I had my first blood transfusion at about 5yrs old and all my life I have been in an out of hospital. In education, I had faced many obstacles, a lot of teachers doubted my ability to succeed due to my disability. In healthcare, I had faced the difficultly of having a ‘black condition’ that due to its proximity to blackness had many negative stereotypes attributed to it. And in the Black Community, there was a lack of essential conversation around a condition that was mainly killing us and I just didn’t understand that. I had always been a very opinionated person that hated any sort of injustice, growing up my mum’s nickname for me was ‘Defender of the Universe’. So I essentially decided to just address it.

I did the Ted Talk to highlight all the issues around Sickle Cell that we were facing in the U.K.; the lack of black blood donation, which is critical because the majority of our care is blood donation. I addressed the issues of racial bias in the NHS. It was a really small decision that essentially changed everything for me.

What is something not many people know about you?

Music is my first love. The love of my life. And as much as I love fashion, law and advocacy. A world without music would be meaningless to me!

What is something you learned in 2022 and are putting into practice in 2023?

Know your worth and add taxes. How you allow yourself to be treated is how you will be treated. So make sure you don’t accept less than you know you deserve – this is hard because it means you may experience rejection – but it’s okay. Rejection is just redirection.

Describe your personal style?

Minimal, elegant, very detail oriented with a dash of edge. I have a uniform, I mostly wear tailored pieces and I wear tones more than colours. But I focus on textures, I play with knits, leather and silk. Lastly, accessories and jewellery – my love language.

How are you styling Vagabond this season?

Summer is hereeeee! So I’m thinking something sheer or linen on the bottom with a nice structured cropped jacket on top and a white tank – my go to.

Who would you nominate next for OFFICE Spotlight?

The amazing, Savannah Harriot aka @savssounds. She is an outstanding DJ by night but an Asset Manager by day. I’m always so amazed by her grind, she is a multifaceted queen. She has been doing a residency with No Signal since 2020 and slowly but surely taking over the DJing scene, recently working with the likes of Juls.

OR

The Greenstreet Collective | @thegreenstreetcollective founded by sisters, Stephiene and Sarah Greenstreet.

They came together to create an intersectional women’s group with the core purpose of building a community based on inclusivity and empowerment. They give black women access to resources and experiences they need to thrive. So far their events have been selling out at a ridiculous speed and they recently collaborated with Gymshark to host an event focused on health and wellness.

What are you having for dinner hun?

My sisters absolutely grand Caribbean chickpea and lentil channa, I have not been able to stop thinking about this since she made it like last week. With some plantain on the side! A recipe for world piece heart eyes
