Talk us through your music style and your career journey so far?

My music career began in lockdown, a local cafe in my hometown of Bournemouth was starting up a radio station, Lockdown Community Radio. I got involved and started hosting my own weekly show, meeting other local creatives and DJs. Then a friend sent me an advert for Voices Radio as they were launching a brand new station in Coal Drops Yard, Kings Cross. I got in touch and jumped on the train to London to do a trial show and then made the move to London shortly after. 2 years later Iā€™m still presenting on Voices and absolutely loving it! Whilst at Voices I also learnt to mix (shout out DJ Picnic who taught me), got a job at BBC Introducing in London and began writing for music organisation UD. Now Iā€™m full time freelance and feeling very grateful to do what I love for my job.Ā

My music style is definitely soulful, Iā€™ve grown up listening to my Dad’s almighty CD collection which helped shape my sound. Heā€™d blast Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott-Heron and Moodymann around the house which really inspired my taste. My DJ sets usually span Soulful House, Deep House & Garage and often feature the likes of Eliza Rose, LADYMONIX, Chaos In The CBD, Kerri Chandler to name a few.Ā

Can you give us a little insight into your day to day life in the music scene? Any tips for beginners?

Every day is different which I love, but most of my days are filled with listening to new music for BBC Introducing, going to gigs, preparing for or hosting my show on Voices Radio, digging for music for my DJ sets, DJing or writing reviews and interviewing artists for UD. I also host a podcast with Kiosk N1C and Iā€™m the co-founder of DJ collective and events called BEAM which spotlight women, NB, GNC & trans DJs.Ā

My top tip would be to put yourself out there and support other artists in the industry. If youā€™re just starting out as a DJ, go to events and meet other DJs who you admire and chat to them, you never know where it might lead. Immerse yourself in the scene, make friends and help each other out. The industry is a lot smaller and less scary than it can seem at first, I promise!Ā

Style the ‘Lyonsdale Boots’ in Cream Iridescent with a contrasting dark wash denim jeanšŸ”„.

Whatā€™s the biggest lesson youā€™ve learned in your career to date?

Iā€™m always learning but a big lesson Iā€™ve learnt is to say yes to things that scare you a little bit. Put yourself out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself, most people are still learning and levelling up so believe in yourself & go get it!Ā

Also, donā€™t compare yourself to others. One of my favourite quotes is ā€˜comparison is the thief of joyā€™. Thereā€™s only one you, so use your unique talent and skills to be the best version of yourself rather than trying to be like someone else.Ā

Your proudest achievement in 2023 so far?

DJ wise, definitely playing on the iconic Pagoda stage at Secret Garden Party this summer as so many of my favourite DJs have played there previously. Although, I think my proudest achievement is taking part in this campaign, the team were amazing and being chosen for this still feels surreal. A pinch me moment for sure!Ā

Describe your personal style?

My style is very colourful, I love bold, bright colours and clashing prints. Iā€™m a sucker for leopard print or double denim and I also love an all in one, so dungarees, jumpsuits or playsuits are a wardrobe staple for me. Iā€™m also a big fan of fun accessories such as huge sunglasses or bucket hats.Ā

How are you styling your Timberlandā€™s this season?

Now itā€™s cosy season, Iā€™ll be styling my Timberlandā€™s with high-waisted jeans and colourful cropped knitwear.

Often I dress in outfits that I can wear from day to night as I might be hosting my show in the day and DJing in the evening, so a pair of dungarees with chunky Timberland boots is the perfect combo.

Style the ‘TnĀ The tall Boots’ in Black with an oversized knit jumper layered with a shirt and pencil skirtšŸ‘.

What are you having for dinner hun?

My friends know that if theyā€™re coming round and weā€™re going out, Iā€™m cooking a super speedy pesto pasta. But if Iā€™m having a night in and have more time to cook, I love making a healthy, hearty meal like a chilli or a veggie stew, ideal for this time of year.Ā
