We’ve all looked at a wardrobe bursting with clothes and thought ‘ I’ve got nothing to wear’. If you’re in a style rut follow our top tips to help you make the best of what you’ve got in your wardrobe.
Have a clear out
We know, we know, it’s hard to part with any items from your wardrobe, after all, what if they come back into fashion just a few months after you’ve brutally discarded them? But, if you’ve got too many clothes, you may be forgetting all about some hidden gems which are languishing underneath a pile of tatty t-shirts or behind your coats from the last three winters. Drag everything out and separate it into three piles; keep, toss and store. Getting rid of anything that doesn’t fit, those jumpers from your mum you’ll never wear and even your favourite cardigan which has one too many holes in it will give you a clearer idea of what you’ve got.
We all have days where we’re just sick and tired of everything in our wardrobes but have no cash to splash. So, why not organise a swap shop? Invite your friends round and tell them to bring up to five pieces of clothing they’d happily part with. Pour some wine, set out some nibbles and you can swap your items until you each have a whole new wardrobe. Learn from our experiences though, you might need to set some ground rules if you don’t want to be stuck with a Towie-esque velour trackie while your mate dances off with your 7 For All Mankind jeans.
Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise
It’s amazing how accessories can completely transform an outfit – and they don’t really count as shopping, right? The perfect pair of shoes can make a boring black dress seem impossibly stylish while the right jewellery can bring even a simple t-shirt and jeans right up to date.
This season it’s all about chandelier earrings, chunky chains and statement crosses.
Buy one key piece
If you really can’t resist the lure of the high street, treat yourself to one key piece which will update your look. For Autumn/Winter 13 that might be some great ankle boots, a fur-trimmed coat, anything tartan or a statement trouser suit.
Or if you are anything like us, all of them…
