With the thought that soon there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans, Converse have taken sustainability seriously. With the environment at the tip of our tongues, Converse are taking strides towards sustainable fashion with the Renew collection with the idea of moving things forward one step at a time. There’s always a way to renew what we do. We may not be perfect, but we can all take little steps towards a brighter and better future.

The Chuck Renew Canvas is a product which takes the spirit of progressing forward. Made to keep, not as a flash-in-the-pan, these shoes are made from 100% recycled polyester which lived its previous life as plastic bottles. It’s part of an ongoing journey at Converse to make products more innovative and sustainable by giving products a new lease of life and making more from less.

Step 1
Collect & Recycle
Converse worked with Thread International, sourcing plastic bottles from developing countries to process into the fabric to make these special shoes.

Step 2
Flake & Grind
The bottles are broken down into flakes, melted and rolled into bales which are then spun into the yarn.

Step 3
Spin & Weave
The yarn from the bottles is then woven into the fabric, polyester, which is used to create the canvas for the Converse Renew shoes.

Step 4
Chuck Renew
The end products are the shoes, crafted from 100% recycled polyester that started life off as plastic bottles. The same Chuck spirit, bottled.
