Onitsuka Tiger by Asics has been around since 1949. Founded by the entreprenure Kihachiro Onitsuka the company developed rapidly into one japans top sports footwear companies, designing technical trainers for specific sports. In 1966 Onitsuka brought out the Mexico 66, this has been imortalised Quentin Tarantinos Kill Bill with Uma Thurman playing a woman on a mission of vengeance. Bruce Lee was a fan of Onitsuka and wore a pair in Game of Death. In 1977 Onitsuka Tiger merged with two other sports related brands creating a complete sporting goods company. They decided to name the company ASICS (Anima Sana In Corpore Sano) a Latin phrase meaning ‘a sound mind in a sound body’.
