Guest Blog | Jess Shanahan @ BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend

Tuesday, August 11th, 2015

This year BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend landed in Norwich, which is quite a big deal when you consider how out of the way we are. When the news hit that we would be hosting this outdoor event, everyone was getting excited about Taylor Swift on the Sunday. I might be rock to the core but I can’t say no to a bit of Swifty.

That being said, I only managed to secure tickets for the Saturday and what a stroke of luck that was. Snoop Dogg, Muse, Fall Out Boy and some great new bands on the Introducing stage. It was the Introducing stage we found ourselves at as Kill it Kid was playing. What a fantastic way to start the day, I’ve found a new band to add to my road trip playlist!

After this, we headed to the In New Music We Trust tent to prepare for Snoop. The thought of Snoop Dogg in Norwich was a little too much to handle for some people and I’m still not sure it was real. The crowd erupted when the rapper walked onto stage but I’ve never seen such a show of collective realisation as when we all noticed that he was wearing a Norwich City shirt. It was a surreal thing to behold and I think I was so baffled and yet full of glee that I didn’t really pay attention to the first few songs. I think Snoop Dogg was well aware that no one in Norwich was going to recognise some of his more obscure music so he played the hits then moved onto some fantastic covers that had us jumping, singing and dancing.

We caught the end of Ella Eyre too and I was fully prepared to not know any of her music but I was captivated by a shiny catsuit and glittery face paint.

From this point onwards I was getting excited because the bands and artists to come were some of my favourites. Next up was Fall Out Boy, a band I know I like but not necessarily a band I’ve heard lots of. I was wrong; I was singing and dancing along to every song! A quick stop for some food (the mighty Bullitt Burgers were there so it made the decision easy) and then it was back to the main stage for David Guetta where I had my own mini rave.

Florence and The Machine was one of the acts I was really looking forward to seeing and Florence herself hobbled on with a broken foot, meaning she had to sit down for the whole set. Not a problem, though, her voice is amazing, the music fantastic and I had goosebumps the whole time. It’s a pity we couldn’t see her jump around on stage (which is how she sustained the injury) but it was a pleasure to experience Florence and The Machine. We had a choice at that point to either hang around to get a good position for the mighty Muse (or Moooos as we say here in Norfolk) or to head off to see Rudimental. Eventually we decided to hang out for Muse as it was a nightmare trying to wade through people to the other stage. I’m a little sad to have missed Rudimental but it was worth it for the near-front central position we found ourselves in.

All in all, Saturday at The Big Weekend in Norwich was a surreal experience. Muse, Fall Out Boy, David Guetta, Ruidmental, The Vaccines, Ella Eyre, Ben Howard and Snoop Dogg (in a Norwich City shirt) all in our Fine City was a great experience and I’m so glad I had the chance to go.

OFFICE @ Henley Royal Regatta #outofoffice15

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending Henley Royal Regatta in Oxfordshire on the hottest day of the year. What could be better than watching the rowing races and sipping cold drinks in the glorious sunshine.

Henley_blog_v2

All the guest were in their smartest summer attire, the ladies opting for dresses, heels and hats and the gentleman wearing summer suits, boater hats and Timberland boat shoes.

Accompanying us to this grand event were some key members from menswear press all wearing their fave OFFICE shoes for summer, which included the Pansy Sandal, Garland Block Heel and Soho Heel.

After enjoying the delicious canapés, a 4 course dinner and of course some traditional afternoon tea we sat with our feet in the river cheering on the rowers.

The outfits and the beautiful English countryside felt like we had stepped back in time and it was great to see the men’s fashion remaining very traditional at the Regatta. Striped blazers, boater hats, boat shoes and chinos was the outfit of choice for the guys and it was nice to see men dominating the fashion for a change. The woman obviously looked great, but the boys definitely stood out at the Regatta.

The full Regatta look might be a bit extreme for some guys but it is great inspiration for when dressing for other summer events. Boat shoes like our Timberland Exclusive or the classic Heritage 2 Eye are great to pair with chinos and a shirt for garden parties, wedding receptions and posh picnics in the park.

We couldn’t of asked for a more beautiful day surrounded by lovely scenery, it truly was a proper English day out in the countryside.

The backpack is full, the tent is packed and we are almost ready for a week of fantastic music and culture at the legendary Glastonbury Festival in Somerset.

With headline acts Kanye West, Florence & the Machine and The Who, the festival is set to be an explosive one and we cannot wait to see what everyone is wearing.

Come rain or shine the crowds pull of some weird and wonderful outfits and are usually armed with a pair of trusty Hunter boots or classic Converse to keep them dancing from dusk til dawn.

Here is some of the looks and styles we will be rocking at Glasto this year.

We Are FSTVL : What we are wearing

Friday, May 29th, 2015

This weekend we are super excited to be attending We Are FSTVL in Upminster and of course the first decision is, what are we going to wear!?

This colourful dance festival is one of the first of the season and we can’t wait to get involved to see what people are wearing and hopefully spot some OFFICE shoes.

We are super inspired by boho chic and metallics this summer and we will definitely be sporting some denim, tassles and probably a kimono in case it gets cold in the evenings. Our fave styles to wear with this look are the Odessa sandal, Wild Thing lace up heel and suede Wanderlust shoeboot. All of these styles are great for a warm day and you can still dance the day away in a mid block heel or sandal.

If you are more of a trainer girl, wear some classic styles in bright colourways so they really stand-out and your friends can find you in a crowd. We are loving print this season and the Nike Aloha Air Max 1 in pink is perfect for the girl who loves a bit of 90’s style. Wear with high waisted mom shorts and a crochet crop top.

A brand new style from Nike, the Juvenate comes in great summer colours and is crazy comfortable, we will definitely have a pair in our bag when we are dancing to Gorgon City on Saturday.

Follow us at @officeshoes to get live updates from the festival tomorrow, hopefully we will see some of you there!

Destination Sun

Thursday, May 28th, 2015

Its that time of year when even if the sun doesn’t come to us, we will chase it around the globe so we can show off our summer wardrobe.

This summer we are embracing the classic nautical theme with stripy tees, denim shorts and espadrilles like the UGG Australia Sandrine, an easy style to wear whether you are hitting the beach or taking in the sights.

If you like to book yourself a few excursions whilst your away then make sure your backpack is packed with some classic Vans Authentics or some Superga 2750 Liberty trainers. You can climb rocks and explore cultural towns whilst looking great and these bright colours and florals will compliment your newly tanned pins.

Add a bit of boho style to your look with sheer white embroidered tops, cheesecloth shirt dresses and plenty of accessories. Wear this style with our Outlaw Sandal or Pose Mule.

Our top sandal brands for summer are Solillas, Birkenstock and Teva and providing you have got one of these, you can wear them with anything. The comfortable dad style Teva sandal and Birkenstock will be glued to your feet on warmer days and you can walk for miles in these newly fash styles. Solillas sandals are perfect for the girlier girl as they come in so many colours you will want a pair to match every bikini.

Secret Garden Party #OFFICEFestStyle

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014

This weekend, Mill Hill field in Abbots Ripton saw the masses arrive in their thousands for the spectacular Secret Garden Party and some of our OFFICE HQ friends went to check it out.

This unique, independent festival is famed for its relaxed, hippie vibes and visually stunning surroundings with a huge lake, secret waterfalls and decorated stages dotted around the site. With every food you can imagine and people dressed as pixies, animals, butterflies and mythical creatures it is like being transported into Narnia.

140728_SGP3

The musical highlights this year were hip hop legends Public Enemy, Subfocus, Foxes and Clean Bandit who managed to get the crowds going wild. An unexpected favourite was Max Raabe and the Palast Orchestra who transported the revellers to the 1920’s with their Great Gatsby style sounds.

This magical wonderland of culture had fireworks, huge bonfires, paint fights and even a secret sunflower field that was accessed by walking through a portaloo, a place most of us dread!

Probably the best festival experience you will encounter as it is like none other and focuses on a lot more than music with so many activities to try and secret escapes to discover, its like being in a dream world.

We will definitely be washing off the glitter for days!

Men’s Leather Sandals – How to Wear

Friday, July 25th, 2014

Commonly seen as a fashion faux-pas the leather sandal has always appeared a bit feminine and uncool but this summer it has had a bit of a style revival.

The leather sandal was the usual footwear choice of our awkward dads in summer and more often than not paired with socks, the dreaded combo. They would crack them out on family holidays to everyone’s horror and since then the closest thing to a sandal a guy would put on his feet is a pair of Havaianas.

Recently men aren’t as afraid of a sandal, realising that it is the best way to stay cool in the summer and can be quite easy to style up or down.

140714_MensSandal

The woven Nero slip on is a great smart choice sandal to match with some cotton twill chino shorts and shirt for those summer evening events.

For the guy who doesn’t want to be too adventurous, the Crixus sandal is a classic flip flop but with premium leather uppers and sole and is easy to wear with anything.

The trend-setters favourite is the slider or footbed like the Birkenstock Arizona 2 Strap or OFFICE Thong sandal. Dress down with jeans, a vest and a loose fitted plaid shirt or smarten up with some chinos and t-shirt.

Lovebox 2014 #OFFICEFestStyle

Monday, July 21st, 2014

This weekend some of our OFFICE HQ guys and girls were lucky enough to go along to Lovebox for 2 days of amazing music and got some great snaps of all the fun!

With temperatures soaring to 32 degrees centigrade on Friday and Saturday it felt more like LA than London and everyone’s clothing and footwear definitely reflected this. T-shirts, shorts, crop tops and bikinis were everywhere and sandals, trainers and jelly shoes were the main footwear of choice, with a few in wellies (they clearly didn’t check the weather!)

This humble East London festival has almost doubled in size from last year with 2 huge stages, a Big Top and lots of sponsored stages from the likes of Red Bull, Aperol Spritz and Distrkt. Dotted around the site were giant flowers, trees covered in pom poms, fairground rides and a huge makeshift Manor House where most of the big DJs spent their time on the balcony.

140721_lovebox

The highlights of Friday were ASAP Rocky, DJ EZ and Chase and Status who closed the first day with an incredible set that had the crowds going crazy. It may of helped that a huge electrical storm hit as they came on, so in-between lasers and lightening strikes the visuals and atmosphere were incredible.

Saturday had a lot of house DJs and was a bit more chilled with the favourites being Canadian songstress Banks and legendary rapper Nas cracking out some 90’s hip hop classics. MIA closed the festival with a spectacular light show as the entire crowd had handfuls of glow-sticks, but unfortunately her set was cut short due to a power cut which didn’t go down too well with the hyped up crowd.

All in all in was a fantastic festival and we are lucky to have it on our doorstep at OFFICE HQ so we will definitely be back again next year!!

Power Points: How to Style

Friday, July 18th, 2014

A pointed toe is one of this season’s hottest shoe trends. Seen gracing the catwalks of SS14, the classic pointed silhouette is one of the most popular heels of choice this summer. Great for lengthening legs, slipping on a pair of points not only elongates your pins making legs look slender, it also adds a sleek and sophisticated feel to just about any outfit.

Team a pointed pump with a pair of vintage light washed boyfriend jeans for a feminine take on a casual look . Alternatively style a classic pointed stiletto heel with a pair of tailored shorts or cropped cigarette trousers – taking you from the boardroom to the bar!
