Five most stylish men of 2013

Monday, December 30th, 2013

It’s not just the women who have been flying the flag for fashion this year, a number of male celebs have been showing off their style credentials in 2013.

We take a look at who we consider to be the five best-dressed men of the year.

Harry Styles

Harry Styles was a firm fixture on the front row at this year’s fashion shows and was even rewarded for his sartorial efforts with the British Style Award at the British Fashion Awards. His signature look is tight t-shirts, blazers and skinny jeans and sharp slim-line suits. He also knows how to rock bed hair and statement scarves.

 Styles wins paparazzi order

Tinie Tempah

He may rarely be seen wearing socks, but the rest of Tinie’s outfits are always spot on. Whether he’s going for geek chic in bow tie and thick-framed glasses, modelling one of Savile Row’s finest suits or dressing down in jeans and t-shirt he always looks sharp.

David Beckham

It may be his wife Victoria’s influence, but these days David Beckham rarely puts a fashion foot wrong. On the red carpet he’s always in an immaculately sharp suit and his off duty dad look of jeans and perfectly-worn boots is just as stylish.

David Gandy

Dapper is the best word to describe model David Gandy. There are few gents who can pull off a bow tie and pocket handkerchief with such style. He can do casual too and is often seen sporting jeans and a classic cardigan.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake burst back onto the music scene this year and his suits and ties were just as well received as his latest album. He favours Tom Ford for eveningwear and it has certainly been a winning partnership.

How to style your mo’

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

For those of you attempting to grow a moustache as part of Movember, almost two weeks in it’s likely you now have a significant amount of fuzz on your upper lip. If you’re not used to rocking a mo’, the chances are you aren’t sure how to style your ‘stache, but now is the time to put a bit of thought into it if you don’t want to look like a scruffbag who’s never seen a razor by the end of the month.

Here are our top tips for making the most of your mo’ this November.

Painter’s Brush

If you’re yet to really groom your mo’ the chances are it already looks like a Painter’s Brush, a thick moustache which covers the entire mouth and rolls down slightly at the edges. This is the perfect tache if you are a low maintenance fella as all it requires is regular shave to keep it in tip top condition. Brad Pitt has been known to sport a Painter’s Brush, so we know it works with both off-duty clothes and a smart suit.

Pencil

The Pencil is the type of moustache you’re most likely to see celebs experimenting with from time to time. It’s a thin, well defined line just above the upper lip, which needs to be kept neat with regular clipping. For maximum impact, use wax to add extra definition and make sure it’s arranged precisely. If you are a slick dresser, or regularly wear suits for work, this is the moustache which may work best for you.

The Artist

The Artist is a bit more of a high maintenance ‘tache. Made famous by French painters, it requires precise grooming and regular upkeep as the whiskers shouldn’t reach past the edges of your lips. If you want to add a humorous edge, take inspiration from Salvador Dali and add a little wax to the ends so they point upwards.

The After Eight

If you were a bit dubious about growing a mo’ but gave in after some not-so-gentle ribbing from your mates then the After Eight will be the option for you. The Movember rules make it clear you can’t join your moustache to your chin, as that would be considered a goatee, but after careful reading, it doesn’t say anywhere that the rest of your face has to be completely hairless. The After Eight is a barely there tache combined with some stubble on your chin, for a rugged ‘I just forgot to shave look’.

Maybe not perfect for the office, but it will look great with your jeans and trainers on lazy weekends.

Team Teddy’s Whiskers – Update

As you are aware, some of the fella’s here in HO are growing their mo’s for this amazing cause. One guy has cheated a little bit by not shaving his face completely due to having incredibly sensitive skin; well, that’s what he told us anyway (can you tell which one?). All cheating aside their progress is clear to see. There’s also hot debates over who is going to go for the Ron Burgundy, our money is on Stuart. We’ll come back with further updates but in the meantime you can check out their marvellous mo’s and donate on their  page here

Good luck Teddy’s Whiskers!

NEWGEN MEN winners announced

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

London Collections: Men is set to feature some of the brightest menswear talents in the world in January thanks to a cash injection from NEWGEN MEN which will help ten up-and-coming designers showcase their exciting and innovative Autumn/Winter 14 collections to the fashion crowd.

Among the ten will be three new designers benefiting from NEWGEN support for the first time; we take a look at the new names whose collections we’ll be coveting in the coming years.

Common

Common is made up of Swedish duo Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund, who as well as having their own label have collaborated with a number of big name fashion houses and none other than Kanye West. Their signature style is “progressive” with “clean aesthetics” and key pieces include their bird print bomber jacket.

Diego Vanassibara

Brazilian-born Diego moved to the UK when he was 22 and is a popular man at OFFICE HQ thanks to his innovative shoe designs. His trademark piece is a hybrid shoe which is one part Oxford and one part Derby.

Speaking about his ideal client, Vanassibara described an “informed urban man with a contemporary and individual attitude to dressing”. Sound like anyone you know?

Kit Neale

Print and colour are the staples of Kit Neale’s bold collections, with trademark pieces including embroidered sweaters, wax cotton bombers and contrast print shirts. His latest collection is based on London icons, but not always ones you’d expect. Elephant and Castle and Heathrow Terminal 4 are particular inspirations.

Other recipients for next year are Agi & Sam; Astrid Andersen; Lee Roach; Martine Rose; Matthew Miller; Nasir Mazhar and Shaun Samson.

 Lee Roach

Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, commented: “Menswear is an unstoppable force in British fashion. Welcoming three new designers to the scheme this season, each of whom bring a very different aesthetic to the NEWGEN MEN line-up, is testament to the strength and diversity of the emerging menswear talent in the industry.”

What women want (men not to wear)

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

If you are trying to dress to impress the opposite sex then a recent survey may have some interesting insights for you. The poll, by TLC TV, highlighted the fashion fads that women don’t find attractive on men. Top of the list were low hanging jeans, baseball caps balanced on the back of the head and ankle skimming trousers. It seems women also find it a turn-off when men wear pink jeans, short shorts, low v-neck t-shirts, onesies and ‘girly’ scarves. So boys if there are any three-quarter length trousers or white vests lurking in your wardrobe, it also might be worth throwing them out. In terms of footwear, heeled shoes are a no-no as is rocking socks and sandals.

If you want to make a good impression, a beautifully cut suit is the way to a woman’s heart, according to stylist Brix Smith-Start, who suggested men look to Jude Law and front row favourite Harry Styles for fashion inspiration. The women questioned also highlighted George Clooney and David Beckham as men they’d like their boyfriends to dress like.

And if you are thinking about ignoring this advice, you may want to think again. The survey found that women are far more likely to judge the opposite sex by the clothes they wear. Women are also less likely to accept a date if the suitor is badly dressed – only 47% would accept a date with someone who has bad fashion sense.

We think you can’t go wrong with a well-fitting pair of jeans, teamed with some stylish trainers or on-trend hiking boots and topped off with a baseball jacket as seen at Missoni and Oliver Spencer this Autumn/Winter. For more formal occasions, a slimline charcoal suit as seen at Bottega Veneta is the perfect choice.

Once upon a time

Monday, September 24th, 2012

Once upon a time, an enchanting collection of OFFICE shoes lay waiting to be discovered…

But this is no ordinary fairytale – a dark and mysterious mood has blown in. Flowers have wilted and the room is dark with only a flicker of light illuminating lustrous curved wedge courts and glitter-coated platforms coloured in pewter and fawn. And as the clock strikes midnight and dawn approaches, princess bow peep toes and crystal encrusted courts in brooding shades of crimson and sapphire finally fall under the spell.

More Fashion Week Adventures

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012
Office Adventures at London Fashion Week
We were lucky enough to score a last minute ticket to the JW Anderson show at the NewGen space last night.
JW is the current much coveted Irish designer who has just launched a womenswear collaboration with Topshop

After a mad dash home and a room trashing later, we were ready to head into town.
A quick champers pit stop was made at the re-launched Selfridges menswear designer space.

Selfridges ceilling by Alex Cochrane
Selfridges had commissioned Architect Alex Cochrane who had re vamped the space and the men’s team also showcased ‘The Desirables’ a collection of archived menswear pieces. Two of the most eye-catching, were two Givenchy jackets designed for the late Michael Jackson to be worn on the ‘This is It’ tour.
Givenchy This is it Jackets
Office menswear was spotted on Attitude magazine’s Chris Hobbs.
Office Alfred Lace up Mens spotted on Attidue magazine's Chris Hobbs

A couple of cocktails later, it was time to hot step it to the show space held in Bedford Square Gardens. We quickly took out seats, along with FROWers Suzie Bubble, Azealia Banks and Pixie Geldof. The lights dimmed and the show started.

The theme of the show was ‘The Treatment Room’; a place where things distort and re –shuffle and where fabrics are engineered into garments. There was a ‘personal urgency’ to strip back fashion to garments with an edge. Patterns are refined, tailoring and masculine elements are mixed with feminine colours and drapery.
