Monk shoes – How to Wear

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

Over the years. men’s formal footwear choices have stayed simple and slick, with most opting for a classic brogue, a chisel toe lace up or a slightly daring winkle-picker.

Recently guys are getting a little more daring with their choices and the favourite silhouette of the moment seems to be the monk shoe. This Wall St style became popular in the 80s with the Jordan Belforts of the world and with 80s formal fashion coming back around, its only right that the footwear should follow.

Premium monk shoes like the Poste Apparel and Giovanni are best paired with a 3 piece suit for the office or worn with smart trousers and a shirt/jumper for evenings out.

Slightly more casual styles like the Ask the Missus Hirst and Anarchy look good with dark wash denim, loose fitted tweed and thin knitwear.

Heavy Metal

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

Metallics are here to stay, carrying over from summer but taking on a darker, inky sheen for the colder months.

This dissonance trend adds a subtle metallic detail to any outfit and the iridescent effect has a textural and dimensional quality that gives the shoes a luxe effect.

The pointed Strobe heel and Kicker Slip On look as if they have been dipped in a petrol pool with greens and purples shining through the hi-shine black. Pair with some denim, loose white tee and structured jacket.

For a warmer tone, go for the Georgia Court or Vectra Brogue in deep bronze, great matched with tailored trousers or girly dresses and thick tights this Autumn.

Make sure you have a touch of dark metallic into your wardrobe this season to easily glam up the simplest of outfits.

Nine to Five

Monday, September 1st, 2014

With new season comes a time for a mega wardrobe refresh for work so you arrive back to the office looking your best. Say goodbye to bare legs and shoulders and welcome thick tights, structured blazers and chunky loafers.

The glam, power vixens of the office can match their pencil skirts and cigarette pants with sharp pointed stilettos, like the On Tops or t-bar Selina and a pale chiffon blouse.

For those who like a heel that’s not too high and a bit of premium detail, then the Solstice cut out heel or Ted Baker Moniirra court are just enough to pair with a simple shift dress or tapered trousers.

For the tomboys and girls on the go, chunky flats like the Vaccine monk buckle shoe or the classic Extravaganza loafer will have you running for a morning coffee with ease. Go ’90s style and wear with a girly pinafore or sport some androgynous styling with a grandad shirt, slim tailored trousers and a tux jacket.

Monochrome

Friday, August 29th, 2014

A transitional trend that seems to reappear season after season is the simple and stand-out head to toe monochrome. This ’60s inspired look has had a modern makeover with clothes and footwear staying minimal and sleek.

The bold shades of midnight black and stark white have a luxe look about them, whether they are worn solely as one colour or the two together. Footwear for AW14 has a lot of focus on texture which juxtaposes the minimal mono colour and is a subtle way of adding a premium feel to an effortless outfit.

This uncomplicated style will always be your friend as it suits all, can be worn all year round and lets face it we all have black and white in our wardrobes. A baggy white t-shirt can be easily dressed up with a structured mini skirt and fresh perforated leather Vans Classic Slip Ons or canvas Old Skools.

With clean leather boots like the Dioon Lace Up and Chelsea from Vagabond you can experiment with texture in your clothes by wearing heavy knit, gauzy/sheer panelling and lightweight jersey.

Wear a geometric patterned or striped shift dress with black opague tights and the Villain Three Part Point for a smart work-wear look or wear the same dress with Lycra leggings and the Holla Cross Strap sandals for casual weekend days.

Animal Instinct

Friday, August 15th, 2014

As we are coming out of summer and embracing autumnal colour palettes, its time to take a walk on the wild side and add a touch of animal print to your wardrobe.

Whether you like to go all out with some leopard print or keep it subtle with a flash of python or croc, animal print adds a rebellious streak to a simple outfit.

140714_blog

Traditional animal prints are perfectly matched with black and white as they stand out against mono tones and for those who like to keep things a bit more understated, a simple croc or python textured heel will give any outfit a premium feel.

Pointed stiletto heels like the Jewel or Galvanize can add a touch of glamour in the office with a crisp white shirt and black pencil skirt, or can easily dress up some ripped boyfriend jeans and oversized t-shirt.

A style to watch for AW14 is the platform heel, with silhouettes taking inspiration from the ’70s disco era. These chunky, block heels like the Strive and Siren pack a punch and with classic python and croc embossed leather uppers they have a vintage vibe that perfectly pairs with a structured skirt or girly dress.

Slip ons are here to stay for AW14 and the metallic snake embossed Kilter and zebra pony effect Kwik Step are easy to wear with jeans, dresses and smart tapered trousers.

Mens AW14 Style – How to Wear

Tuesday, August 12th, 2014

Lads, its time to start thinking new season as the colder weather is approaching faster than we think and it is a great excuse to have a bit of a wardrobe overhaul and dig out the layers and muted colours.

This season is all about the rugged gentleman, fusing tailoring with casual wear and adding oversized outerwear. Some of the recent grooming trends are sticking around with guys opting for short, back and sides and a bit more facial hair than usual, which will come in handy for the winter.

140812_MensAW14

Rugged styles like the Amuse Lace and the Alpaca Apron have that old American workwear style and look great matched with deep indigo turn up jeans, heavy knits and if you are feeling adventurous, a touch of double denim.

A popular formal style this season is the monk shoe and this also transcends into casual with the Access Double Monk which has a touch of wingtip detailing. Navy suede will feature heavily this autumn and will match with grey tweeds, brown hues and denim.

For formal occasions or if you fancy changing it up a bit in the office, the Artistry tassle loafer is best paired with a 3 piece suit for the Jordan Belfort’s of the world or worn with some nice tailored trousers and shirt for an evening in a nice city bar.

New Season Boots – How to Wear

Monday, August 11th, 2014

Ankle boots are one of the most transitional items in our wardrobe as we can wear them all year round, come rain or shine.

With so many new styles coming in ready for Autumn/Winter ’14, the OFFICE HQ girls cannot get enough and kindly modelled their favourite styles this month.

The cut-out boot trend is here to stay and the Understood boot has a rock edge with a black nubuck leather upper and studded toecap. Pair with a cute playsuit or smock dress, good for gigs.

The Chloe Strap boot is a classic everyday boot and its taupe suede upper looks great with jeans, denim shorts or a floral skirt in late summer.

Make a statement and go chunky with the Cuckoo Chelsea boot in black suede, match with tight leggings and oversized tee or grunge up a girly dress. This style is pretty versatile as you can rock it everyday or take it on a night out.

If you took a little inspiration from Dolly Parton at this years Glastonbury then the Western style Coen Stud ankle boot is definitely the way to go. With an slightly pointed almond shaped toe and low cut upper, it acts as a leg lengthener with a dress or skinny jeans.

Football Style Icons

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

In honour of the Premier League kicking off in less than 2 weeks we thought we would pay homage to a select few football style icons as chosen by the guys and girls in OFFICE HQ.

These sporting heroes manage to turn it up both on and off the pitch with their unique style and personality and we have selected some of our favourite footwear to match with these talented chaps.

140804_FootballStyles2

1. Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos used to sport some long flowing locks and a headband but now this Spaniard has chopped off his famous barnet, grown a beard and always manages to look ruggedly cool. A fan of a Nike Air Max, these new Air Max 90′s are fresh, clean cut trainers that look good simply paired with jeans and a t-shirt.

2. Girls and guys alike never get bored of David Beckham’s timeless style and despite a few fashion blips in the ’90s this man can do no wrong. He looks good in pretty much anything he puts on but his off duty look seems to consist of loose dark jeans, shirt or tee. This classic Beckham style pairs perfectly with the Alpaca Apron shoe as it is easy to dress up or down.

3. Retired German footballer Michael Ballack never fails to look great in a full suit and these premium Poste Artistry loafers are a sleek alternative to a classic lace up. With a high shine finish it is a great shoe for formal events or matched with some nicely cut jeans when you need to look a little suave and sophisticated for dinner.

4. Argentinian bad boy Dani Osvaldo looks like he belongs on a BMX not a football pitch but his rebellious attitude only makes him cooler. He looks a little bit like a pirate and his rocker style stands out with arms covered in tattoos, lots of skull themed jewellery and his long hair tied up in a man bun. Osvaldo’s effortless style is easily matched with some desert chukka boots like the Cookie.

5. Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes is not only a great footballer but he is also a pretty good model and like Beckham, looks great most of the time. His classic modern gentleman style calls for a pair of retro Converse All Star ’70s.
