Hot holiday picks

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

It’s not long now until we’ll be jetting off on our summer jollies so our talk has turned to which shoes will be making the cut.

From city breaks to sun, sea and sand, we’ve picked the hottest styles that deserve a place in your suitcase this summer…

Jelly shoes

Jelly shoes were a staple of beach holidays when we were kids and they’re made a come back this summer in a selection of new shapes and shades.

JuJu makes the original jelly shoes and its range of classic styles are perfect for paddling on the beach. Updated for the new season in pastel colours, they are a must-have for all beach go-ers. Our favourites are the black and white Babe Hi JuJu Jelly and the exclusive coral Maxi Low JuJu Jelly.

Wedges

Walk tall in a pair of versatile summer wedges. Team them with everything from skirts and maxi dresses to skinny jeans and swimwear, they’re the ultimate in sunset glamour! Plus, there’ll be no sinking into the sand when you take that moonlight stroll on the beach.

For a real summery spin on wedges, we love espadrille styles like this Gaimo pair in blue suede. If you’ve only got space in your suitcase for one pair, we’d suggest these Dark Horse wedges. The leopard print will go with everything, they’re comfy for walking around in and they’ll take you from day to night with ease.

Espadrilles

If you’re looking for cool, comfy shoes which you can wear every day of your holiday then you need to pick up a pair of espadrilles.

Toms’ Classic Slip Ons are a favourite and are perfect for lazy days on the beach and sightseeing. The best bit? They’re available in a wide range of colours and patterns. We love the crochet pair, or why not tap into the summer trend for florals with a ditsy-print pair?

If you’re on a budget, our Office flat espadrilles are just £10 for two pairs and are available in some of this season’s hottest pastel shades. We’ll take a pair in every colour please.

Sandals

It wouldn’t be a proper holiday if we didn’t snap up a new pair of sandals (or two or three…). Flip flops, strappy slip-ons, gladiators; we love them all.

But this season it’s the classic footbed sandal that has truly stolen our hearts. Every celeb worth their salt has been spotted in a pair of casual, comfy Birkenstocks recently and we plan to try out the trend too.

The only question is whether we should opt for a cool metallic pair, classic black, or something bright and bold? Or maybe all three?

How to beat the January blues

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

The Christmas tree is down, you’re back in the office full-time and almost all the festive chocolates have been eaten, plus that Christmas credit card bill is on the horizon; for many the January blues are starting to kick in.

Here at Office HQ, we’re not going to succumb to the doom and gloom, here are a few ways we’re keeping a smile on our faces this January.

Planning a holiday

The new year means a new holiday allowance and we’re busy planning exactly how to spend it. New Zealand, Brazil, Indonesia and Mexico are all on our travel wishlist in 2014.

 Office - Brazil

But even if that week or two in the sun will have to wait until a few more pay days have passed, why not plan a UK city break with your pals or a romantic countryside weekend away with your other half? Just having it marked on the calendar will cheer you up no end.

Preparing for snow

Ok so snow can be a bit of hassle when you’re battling your way into work, but if a flurry falls on a weekend it gives you the perfect chance to indulge your inner child and go sledging and have snowball fights. Even if you don’t want to brave the outdoors, what’s better than cosying up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate and the snow falling outside?

 Office - snow

Plus, with forecasts suggesting snow is imminent, we’ve got the perfect excuse for buying some new boots.

Trying something new

New year, new start? Why not take up a new hobby, try to master a new skill or try something you’ve always wanted to do but never had the chance before?

 Office - baking

Follow in Mary Berry’s footsteps and test your skills in the kitchen; your tasty creations will make your friends and colleagues smile too. Or, for something a bit more energetic, why not work off those Christmas selection boxes by trying a new sport or exercise class. Cycling is set to be hugely popular in 2014, with the Tour De France coming to Yorkshire, while aerial fitness and interval training are set to be among the year’s top fitness trends.

Soak up some winter sun

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

Here at OFFICE HQ, we love that the chilly weather gives us an excuse to pull on our boots and cosy cardigans, however, the news that this winter may be the longest in history has left us wondering if we’ll ever be able to wear our sandals again.

To help us combat the cold we have been casting our thoughts to our dream holiday destinations for some make believe winter sun.

Here’s our holiday hotlist if you fancy following in our flip-flop-clad footsteps.

Cape Town

Australia doesn’t have a monopoly on Christmas barbecues. Soaring temperatures in South Africa during December and January mean Cape Town is the perfect spot for a relaxing beach break. Plus, there’s only a two hour time difference with the UK over the winter months, meaning no jet lag.

Thailand

If the doom and gloom of winter has you fantasising about being a castaway on a desert island, make your dreams come true with a week or two in Thailand.

You can hop between dozens of islands, relaxing on snow white beaches and sipping exotic cocktails in temperatures as high as 28C. Or for something a bit more lively, spend some time in buzzing Bangkok with its vibrant markets and bustling nightlife.

Canary Islands

If you fancy somewhere a bit closer to home, the Canary Islands are just a three and a half hour flight from the UK and offer temperatures in the low-mid 20s all year round.

Avoid the well-known tourists traps, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote, and head out to the lesser known, unspoilt islands such as La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera for a true slice of paradise.

California

If you turn green with envy every time you see a celeb shimmying down the red carpet in a strapless creation with no goosepimples in sight, join them for year-round sun in the GoldenState.

You can soak up the sun on San Diego’s perfect beaches, hit the PacificCoast road down to Malibu in a convertible or star spot in Los Angeles.
