London Collections: Men is set to feature some of the brightest menswear talents in the world in January thanks to a cash injection from NEWGEN MEN which will help ten up-and-coming designers showcase their exciting and innovative Autumn/Winter 14 collections to the fashion crowd.
Among the ten will be three new designers benefiting from NEWGEN support for the first time; we take a look at the new names whose collections we’ll be coveting in the coming years.
Common is made up of Swedish duo Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund, who as well as having their own label have collaborated with a number of big name fashion houses and none other than Kanye West. Their signature style is “progressive” with “clean aesthetics” and key pieces include their bird print bomber jacket.
Brazilian-born Diego moved to the UK when he was 22 and is a popular man at OFFICE HQ thanks to his innovative shoe designs. His trademark piece is a hybrid shoe which is one part Oxford and one part Derby.
Speaking about his ideal client, Vanassibara described an “informed urban man with a contemporary and individual attitude to dressing”. Sound like anyone you know?
Print and colour are the staples of Kit Neale’s bold collections, with trademark pieces including embroidered sweaters, wax cotton bombers and contrast print shirts. His latest collection is based on London icons, but not always ones you’d expect. Elephant and Castle and Heathrow Terminal 4 are particular inspirations.
Other recipients for next year are Agi & Sam; Astrid Andersen; Lee Roach; Martine Rose; Matthew Miller; Nasir Mazhar and Shaun Samson.
Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, commented: “Menswear is an unstoppable force in British fashion. Welcoming three new designers to the scheme this season, each of whom bring a very different aesthetic to the NEWGEN MEN line-up, is testament to the strength and diversity of the emerging menswear talent in the industry.”
