Guest Blogger: Mens Summer Style – The Very Simon G

Thursday, June 26th, 2014

You know what they say lads, you can tell a lot about a man by his shoe collection. Don’t be caught short this summer with your 10-year-old tatty espadrilles, not when Office has SO much to offer us!

I know, it can be confusing as to what pair to wear with what outfit, and I do realise that some of us just like two or three pairs that are comfortable, versatile and ‘alright’ with all outfits. But why stop at two when you can have many, especially when they won’t break the bank?

Here are a few tips on how to dress up your summer holiday outfits with some great footwear choices:

  1. Travel to the airport in jeans, T-shirt and these classic Converse All Stars. You could even work them with no socks and tailored shorts for a night out!
  2. There are ways to wear sandals and look cool. These Marbella sliders would look great either walking around on your city break, or down to the beach with a bright pair of shorts. Don’t EVER wear them with socks though!
  3. Tired of sunbathing? Then put on these Toms Classic Slip on’s in an Office Exclusive colourway and go for a quick shopping spree in the city.
  4. For a night out with the lads, a pair of boat shoes will do the trick. Comfy, smart/casual and wearable with literally any outfit, these Ask The Missus Igor pair are a great buy. They would be perfect for high-summer work days at home too.
  5. My favourites hands down have to be these Poste Huarache woven loafers. I love how ‘safari jungle’ they are, yet still remaining actually quite smart. And for those who don’t like their feet (like me!), these are an amazing alternative to sandals. I have them in every colour, and wear them with jeans and a shirt, shorts and a T-shirt or any of these combinations, all times of the day!

Glastonbury: What we are wearing

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

The festival to end all festivals, Glastonbury has officially opened the gates to the welly wearing crowds.

Unfortunately we are headed for muddy days at Glasto as this weekend is due to be a wet one, however we wont let that dampen our spirits or our style.

Come rain or shine, the styles we will be wearing have got us covered for the 5 days of musical mayhem and will keep us dancing until sunrise.

JuJu jellies have become a summer favourite and are ideal for those bursts of blazing heat and even the heavy downpours as it doesn’t matter if they get wet, plus they are super cute on their own or paired with some frilly socks for colder evenings.

A pair of Converse or Vans are  great trainers to chuck in our giant rucksack as they are lightweight and we kind of like them even more when they get scruffy!

As country queen Dolly Parton hits the stage on the final day we will be channelling our inner Dolly with a pair of Domino Fringe ankle boots, some Daisy Dukes and a big back combed barnet.

The festival essential, considering the weather that is going to hit us, is the Hunter welly. The mix of colours and styles are endless but we do love the classic black gloss as it goes with everything! Dresses, shorts, jeans and even a tutu, they always look good and will top off our authentic festival look, complete with some feathers in our hair and a bit of glittery face paint!

Let the fun begin!

Sugar Coated Plimsolls

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014

We first got a taste of candy coloured sportswear when it graced Chanel’s  SS14 catwalk in Paris, emphasizing the sports luxe style in pastel perfection.

Pastels are starting to dominate our summer wardrobe and some cute fondant coloured plimsolls will look great at the beach, on a city trek or at a summer event and these milkshake colours even compliment some tanned pins. Pair some crochet Superga 2750′s with a girly smock dress, silver Air Max 1‘s with some light denim or dress down some tailored coordinates with a pair of mint green Converse .

Five pairs of shoes every woman should own

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

One of our ladies buyers read somewhere recently that the average woman owns 20 pairs of shoes. It really sparked a conversation between us all, how many shoes are enough? The article made it seem like 20 was stretching it…our first thought was “only 20?”. Granted we are biased as we are surrounded by shoes all day (and get the occasional sample sale) but seriously, only 20?

Despite owning upwards of 500 pairs of shoes (and counting) between us, there are a few pairs which we come back to again and again, the ones we have a long-standing love affair with rather than a fashion fling.

Here’s our guide to the five pair of shoes every woman should own.

Black heels

Even if you have heels in every other colour, there are some occasions when only a black pair will do. Whether you need to add some confidence to your stride for an important work meeting or need to glam up for a night on the town, you’ll find yourself reaching for your trusty HBH (high black heels – we’re coining a new phrase) over and over again.

Even if your idea of exercise is trotting around the shops on a Saturday, you need a pair of trainers in your life. At HQ we all seem to own a pair classic Converse. They’ll ensure you look on-trend even on the most casual of dress-down days.

Gladiator sandals

We know it’s not exactly the weather for them now, but as soon as the sun returns next spring it’s a safe bet we’ll be reaching for our trusty gladiator sandals. Even just looking at them in the wardrobe has us dreaming of festivals and BBQs…

Ankle boots

Now, it certainly is the weather for ankle boots. This season’s most stylish pairs have a low chunky heel, buckle or cut-out detailing.

Flat shoes are back in favour with the fashion crowd at the moment, but they’ve never been anything but a must-have for us mere mortals without private chauffeurs.

Brogues, loafers, pumps, slippers, there’s space for all of them in our shoe collections. But having done a quick count, its ballerina pumps we’ve got the most of. Paired with skinny jeans and a blazer, they’re an essential part of our weekend uniform.

But don’t worry if you think you don’t have any of the above in your collection, it’s a great excuse to go shopping…

Park Life Festival

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

Last weekend saw the return of Manchester’s Park Life festival.

2 glorious days of music, fashion and sunshine all came together in perfect harmony.

Headlining acts included Disclosure, Rita Ora, Jurassic 5 and Danny Brown. Something for every musical taste!

The beautiful sunshine inspired the masses to leave their HUNTER wellies at home and try for something a little different. Vans, Converse, JuJu jellies and every kind of gladiator sandal imaginable was unleashed. Not to mention all the face paint, glitter and feathers! With an estimated crowd of 40,000, spirits were most certainly high.

Lower Than Atlantis | The Interview

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Watford rockers Lower Than Atlantis fuse hardcore and punk but with an accessible, melodic edge that has seen them blow crowds away at huge festivals like Download, as well as headlining club shows across the UK and beyond. In fact they’ve just come back from a tour right round the UK with Dinosaur Pile Up and The Xcerts. June 10th will be the perfect time to catch them in an intimate setting before a busy 2013 festival season, which includes T In The Park and Reading/Leeds. The band are busy in the studio working on the finishing touches to their next LP but we caught a few minutes with them ahead of the 100 Club show.

You guys have a reputation for being hard workers, do you still have to work just as hard now you’ve put out three LPs or does it get easier?

If anything we have to work harder! You have to keep pushing yourself and find new ways of doing things, which sometimes isn’t easy. I think if you can predict what a band is going do it’s not worth doing. I think bands/artists always have to surprise their fans with something new and exciting but also try to please their existing fans, which can be difficult at times.

Any advice on how new bands can work hard to emulate your success?

When we first started out playing music it was a case of getting in a room with your mates and having fun, playing music you enjoy and getting better as players as you do so. I think people these days want it to happen over night, which just doesn’t happen. My advice would be to get in a practice room with your friends, play music you enjoy, play shows and with time things will happen!

You’re known for touring a lot, how was the most recent our in April?

That tour was really, really fun! That was the last headline tour for a while so we went out on a bang! Literally, we had confetti, CO2 cannons and a kabuki drop which was a lot of fun. We are slowly turning into Spinal Tap.

Any printable stories?

Many stories but whether we can say is a different story!

You’ve played your fair share of festivals, what’s been the highlight to date?

For me it has to be Reading and Leeds last year. I had never been before so it was really exciting, as I didn’t know what to expect. Obviously I was looking forward to the show but I couldn’t wait to have a wonder around and explore the site. The show was unreal and we had such a good response so it couldn’t of been a better festival experience.

Are you guys working on a new LP, can you give us any info on it? Any new directions?

You’re gonna have to wait and buy it to find out! But expect a lot of new and exciting changes.

Why do you have a T Shirt with Boris Johnson on it, are you fans?

Well we first had Susan Boyle on a shirt with her middle fingers up and that went down really well so we wanted to keep the shirt idea going so decided to whack Boris on there. Who doesn’t like Boris?! That’s my favourite shirt.

Searching for Atlantis is quite a controversial topic, no one seems to know where it is, what’s your take?

I think it’s in the plug hole of my shower.

What’s next for the band?

We are playing a few festivals, Reading and Leeds, T in the park and a few more. But mainly writing and taking our time with this album!
