Glastonbury rumours

Friday, March 14th, 2014

It’s just a matter of months before we’ll be pulling on our wellies and denim shorts and heading to Worthy Farm for a few days of festival fun at Glastonbury. As ever, rumours are swirling about just who will be taking to the famous Pyramid Stage, so we’ve been keeping our ears to the ground and listening out for any hints from our favourite artists.

We take a closer look at who’s confirmed so far and who might be dropping by…

Confirmed

We know that all of the following will be showing their faces in Somerset at some point.

Arcade Fire

Warpaint

Blondie

Dolly Parton

Lily Allen

Suzanne Vega

Disclosure

Arcade Fire are the only headlining act to confirm their appearance so far and will take to the stage on Friday night. As well as being musical geniuses, they’ve also tried their hand at weather forecasting, with the band’s Win Butler promising “gorgeous” weather or people’s money back!

The Graham Norton Show - London

The rumours

Pretty much every artist’s name has been linked with Glasto at one point or another, first Fleetwood Mac were tipped to headline then Prince and now its seems Kasabian are the favourites to take to the stage to coincide with the release of their fifth studio album.

 Graham Norton Show - London

Pop princess Kylie is also being touted to make a possible appearance to promote her new album, which is out this month. The Aussie singer previously had to pull out of a starring spot in 2005 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Klaxons have dropped some of the strongest hints yet that they’ll be taking to the Glasto stage, after dodging questions about the festival. “There are gigs planned, we can’t tell you when, yet,” they revealed during an interview with Zane Lowe earlier this year. Intriguing!

The rumour mill also suggests Rihanna, Kanye West, The Eagles and OutKast may show up.

Friday, March 14th, 2014

Those in the know say that style comes from realising what is classic to you and your look, reinterpreting it each season to keep it fresh. With her arrestingly beautiful looks and cool factor, we can’t get enough of her! Alongside Suki is the most colourful girl on the catwalks – Chloe Norgaard, known in the industry for her rebel looks and carefree nature. Hair today…

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start, and what better way to mark the new season than with new hair? Whether you fancy chopping, styling or colouring your locks, here’s our guide to the hottest hair styles of the season.

Cartoon hair

Ok, cartoon hair may not be the most flattering name for a ‘do but it perfectly describes the mega shiny, blunt and often crazily coloured styles sported by the likes of Katy Perry and Lily Allen. This is a fun but high maintenance look, you’ll need to keep your locks glossy and have your barnet cut regularly to keep it in tip top condition. Remember, cartoon characters never have a hair out of place. Team with dramatic eyeliner and ruby red lips for a look that will ensure you stand out from the crowd.

Hair icon – Lily Allen at the Brits. We love that yellow streak.

Pixie crops

Charlize Theron, Jennifer Hudson, Jaimie Alexander, it seems like all of Hollywood are chopping off their locks and embracing the pixie crop. The sleek, shorn look is ideal for summer; no battling with straighteners or curlers, and you can still play around with it. Jennifer Lawrence’s hair rarely looks the same for two red carpet appearances in a row. We’ve seen it slicked to one side, rough and ready and in full on quiff mode.

Hair icon – Jennifer Lawrence, who else?

Tousled and textured

The idea behind tousled hair is that you look as though you’ve just jumped out of bed and run your fingers through it, but sadly for most of us mere mortals, it’s actually a fairly lengthy process involving texture creams, extensive blow-drying, and a good blast of hairspray.

Hair icon – Rosie Huntington-Whitely, please tell us she doesn’t get out of bed looking like that?

 rosie

Bold shades

Dip dye is out and single shades are in, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to you usual blonde/brunette/red locks. In fact, the bolder and brighter the colour, the better, if recent catwalk shows are anything to go by, with Chanel sending models down the runway with brightly-coloured extensions. If you want something a bit more subtle, the pink rinse on Marc Jacobs’ models made us look twice

Hair icon – Kelly Osboure. Ms O has been rocking purple locks whether they are in style or not.

Do you dare wear…?

Monday, March 10th, 2014

Every season there are some trends which we um and ah over, unable to decide whether we are brave enough to try and pull off fashion forward or if we should leave them well alone. However, this spring we’ve decided to find ways to make some of the toughest trends to carry off work for us. Take a look at our guide to what we’ll be daring to wear in the coming months and how we’ll be styling our outfits…

Crop tops

Crop tops have divided us here at HQ in recent months and it looks like they will continue to do so throughout spring and summer, with a number of designers featuring them as part of their most recent collections. However, even those of us most nervous about flashing our tummies concede that there are a number of ways to embrace the trend even if you don’t have abs like Rihanna. Our favourite combo is a cropped tee and a high-waisted midi skirt in matching prints which shows off just a hint of midriff. When the weather gets warmer we’ll also be teaming our crop tops with some high-waisted shorts a la Taylor Swift.

VERY wide trousers

We’re so used to skinnies now that we don’t really know how we feel about the idea of letting our legs breathe in the frankly huge trousers which were seen on the runways at Mulberry, Paul Smith and Michael Kors. The good news is you don’t need to be a long-limbed supermodel to carry off wide trousers like we initially suspected. But you do need to style them carefully. Think chunky heels and a slim-line top, perhaps with a statement necklace to add some balance to the look.

 Paris Fashion Gaultier

Double denim

Double denim is one of those looks that we were told to avoid for years, like socks and sandals, but then all of a sudden the rulebook is thrown out and the very fashion faux pas we were studiously avoiding is a top trend. Balmain and Louis Vuitton were the drivers behind double denim this spring/summer and who are we to argue with such fashion heavyweights? You do need to think about which pieces to put together though if you want to avoid looking like Britney and Justin circa 2001. Pair varying shades to stop the look being too matchy matchy and opt for embellished denim with frayed or ripped details to be bang on trend.

Slip dresses

Gwyneth Paltrow can wear them. Kate Moss can wear them. But can us mere mortals ever look good in a slinky, shapeless slip dress? The answer from the fashion pack appears to be a resounding yes, if you style it correctly. Layers are the friend of the slip dress and a checked shirt or denim jacket thrown over your spaghetti straps will result in the perfect dressed down look while ensuring you are not flashing too much flesh. Similarly a belted cardigan will help define your shape and provide the perfect contrast to the slinky material.

Golden Globes fashion

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Awards season is finally here! The Golden Globes on Sunday kicked off what will be several months of red carpets, trophies and teary acceptance speeches, and the stars of the silver and small screen certainly dressed to impress. Here’s a closer look at our favourite outfits from the ceremony.

Jennifer Lawrence

Another year, another Golden Globe (this time for Best Supporting Actress) and another stunning Dior gown for Jennifer Lawrence. The gorgeous monochrome dress was elegantly simple but certainly stood out on the red carpet thanks to Jen’s pixie cut, vampish red lips and statement jewellery.

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

Taylor Swift

There were a lot of bold shades being modelled at the Golden Globes and country crooner Taylor Swift was among the most noticeable attendees in a Carolina Herrera cherry red dress with a heart-shaped neckline and long train.

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

Taylor may be better known for her singing than her acting, but with her hair in an elegant up-do and her pout painted perfectly red, she looked every inch the screen siren.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde, who is six months pregnant, looked the opposite of mumsy in a dark green slinky sequinned number by Gucci.

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

The dress hugged her neat baby bump perfectly and she looked sleek and elegant. It was difficult to tell whether she was glowing because of the pregnancy or the sparkling Forevermark diamond earrings and coordinating bracelet she was rocking.

Michelle Dockery

Michelle Dockery looked every inch as elegant as her on-screen counterpart Lady Mary in a gold, embellished Oscar de la Renta gown.

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

The actress let the sparkling dress do the talking and kept her accessories simple with just some statement earrings and a cocktail ring.

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey was a surprise winner on the night, scooping the Best Actor gong for his role in Dallas Buyer’s Club, but he certainly looked the part as he took to the stage in his green velvet blazer with black satin trim.

Red carpet round-up

Friday, January 10th, 2014

We may only be a couple of weeks into the new year, but a host of celebs have already shown off some stunning gowns on the red carpet.

We take a closer look at some of our favourites.

Margot Robbie

Wolf Of Wall Street star Margot Robbie opted for a modest red silk dress at the film’s London première this week. The scarlet two-tone number by Oscar de la Renta featured a high neckline and long sleeves, but a knee-high slit at the front and the nipped-in waist kept it on the right side of frumpy. We also loved her gold stilettos.

Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera modelled an elegantly simple gown at the 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards in LA. The beige, white and black Michael Kors dress combined a number of trends including body-con, colour blocking and a dipped hem. The look was completed with a stylish gold necklace, some strappy Stuart Weitzman shoes and new honey-coloured locks.

40th Annual People's Choice Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith was all about vintage inspired pastels at the Burberry Prorsum Menswear show in London. Her lace Burberry shirt dress was in one of this season’s hottest colours; pink, while her mint green coat and metallic accessories complemented it perfectly.

Paloma also rocked a new hair-do, ditching her trademark red locks in favour of a cool blonde look.

Allison Williams

Girls star Allison Williams has expressed an interest in following in Jennifer Aniston’s footsteps as America’s sweetheart and we think she is well on her way after wowing in a series of gorgeous dresses recently.

One of our favourites is this white satin cocktail dress with crystal and sequin embellishment which she wore for the Girls series three launch. The soft pleat skirt and classic boat neck were timelessly elegant but the stunning detailing ensured it was right on trend.

Celebs in OFFICE: 2013

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

When flicking through our favourite monthly and weekly mags or even noticing the odd tweet, there’s really nothing better than spotting a celeb in a pair of our shoes. There have been so many ‘celeb in OFFICE’ sightings over 2013 that we thought we should pick out a couple of our favourites.

First up we have Fearne Cotton. She had a great year, co hosting Children in Need, having a baby and of course being sighted in some fabulous strappy high heels, otherwise known as Reckless.

CELEBS LEAVE TV SERIES CELEBRITY JUICE AFTER FILMING

Second on our list is Mollie King. As one of the Saturday’s she has glitzy party after another. For one in particular she rolled up in our Reim high heel. We love the peep toe take on a classic court!

InStyle Best Of British Talent Party - Arrivals

Nicole Scherzinger is our number 3 choice of star celeb in OFFICE picks. She was spotted as she made her way into the Celebrity Juice studios sporting the classic and perfectly formed ‘Risky Business’ heel.

'Celebrity Juice' TV show, London, Britain - 16 Oct 2013

Number 4 is Miss Pixie Lott. We love her retro look with her 60′s inspired peplum top, shorts and scarf print platform combo at the Radio music live event. Pixie wore the ‘Letterboxplatform heels.

Radio City Live

Last but not least is the country singing pop princess, Taylor Swift. With dozens of awards and famous boyfriends a plenty, she is one of the most glamourous celebs we’ve spotted in 2013 sampling a pair of our own. Here we saw her rocking the ‘Oppose‘ heeled sandal.

Things we are looking forward to in 2014

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

With just over a week of 2013 remaining, we take a quick peek into our crystal balls at what 2014 has in store for us all…

Nicholas Ghesquière’s first collection for Louis Vuitton

We were sad to see Marc Jacobs leave LV, but now we just can’t wait to see what his successor Nicholas Ghesquière does for his debut spring/summer collection. Those in the know suggest statement shoes will be a big focus; so he’s likely to be in our good books from day one!

Commonwealth Games

The Olympics turned us into fitness fanatics so we hope that seeing Jess Ennis and co in action at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will encourage us to pull on our trainers a bit more regularly.

 Athletics - Jessica Ennis-Hill Filer

Movie sequels

2014 is the year of movie sequels. X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 300: Rise of an Empire and Horrible Bosses 2 will all hit cinemas next year, re-introducing us to some of our favourite film characters. Plus the next instalments of The Hunger Games and The Hobbit will be on the silver screen.

Glastonbury

The act announcements have already started with both Arcade Fire and Lily Allen confirming they will be taking to the stage. With two more headliners still to be announced, we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for any clues and we should really start hunting for the perfect pair of wellies now…

 Glastonbury Festival 2013 - Day 5

The Big Reunion 2

We’re a bit embarrassed to admit this (ok really embarrassed!) but the Big Reunion was definitely our TV guilty pleasure of 2013. We can’t wait to see what dodgy 90s and 00s bands they reunite for the second series.

A new Florence + the Machine album

It’s been two years since chart-topping album Ceremonials, but we’ve heard rumours Florence and her machine are back in the studio working on a third offering. Let’s hope it hits shelves in time to be our album of the summer.

London Collections: Mens Party - London

The World Cup

Even if you’re not a football fan, a summer of World Cup-themed BBQs and afternoons in the beer garden sounds pretty good to us. Start planning your get together for England’s first fixture against Italy on June 14.

Trends we won’t miss in 2014

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

2013 was a great year for fashion, but as always, there was room for a few errors. We take a look at some of the faux pas we hope won’t be returning in 2014.

Mum jeans

There’s room in our wardrobes for skinny jeans, bootleg, boyfriend, cropped and even jeggings, but we draw the line at mum jeans. With their high waist, tapered legs and baggy thighs, was there ever a more unflattering way to wear denim?

Too much flesh

We are all for flashing a bit of toned tummy in a crop top, or for some artfully placed sheer panelling in a LBD, but 2013 saw some people daring to bare far too much. Bikini tops and hot pants are for the beach, not the red carpet. We’re looking at you Miley Cyrus.

MTV Europe Music Awards - Arrivals - Amsterdam

OTT flatforms

Now we love a statement shoe, but some of the crazy flatforms being sold were too much even for us. Plus they are actually really hard to walk in, give us some four inch heels or flat pumps any day.

Mullet skirts

Much like the hair-do they take their name from, mullet skirts with a short front and a trailing back have had their day. In 2014, pick either mini, midi or maxi and stick with it.

All over matching prints

Head to toe matching prints is always too much, instead, break up your outfit with some neutrals, or opt for a mixture of clashing prints in complementary colours.

Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum - New York

Overalls

Jumpsuits and playsuits can look very stylish, onesies are fine in the privacy of your own home, but there’s no place in our wardrobes for overalls, unless you are doing some DIY.

2013’s Best Dressed Women

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014

As 2013 came to an end, a number of fashion mags revealed which stars they thought had topped the style stakes over the past 12 months.

We take a look at some of the worthy winners.

Marion Cotillard

French actress Marion Cotillard always looks impeccable on the red carpet and her highly glamorous ensembles saw her being named best dressed woman of 2013 by Grazia. As the face of Dior she has her pick of couture and the canary yellow gown she wore to the Baftas in February certainly got the year off to a stylish start. Other favourite pieces include the striking white structured gown she wore in Cannes and the striped midi dress she wore in Marrakech in November.

66th Cannes Film Festival - The Immigrant Screening

Miranda Kerr

Vogue has named a whole host of women in its best dressed list, and one fashionista we think definitely deserves her place in the pack is model Miranda Kerr. The mum of one looks effortlessly stylish whether she’s rocking boho style Gucci dresses, Balmain printed trousers or a pair of ripped jeans and a white t-shirt at a basketball game.

Rihanna

Rihanna was another stylish lady singled out for praise by Vogue. Her outfit choices are always bold, normally featuring neon colours, eye-catching prints, plunging necklines or a combination of all three, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The custom Azzedine Alaïa red gown she wore for the Grammys showed she can combine sexy with ladylike.

55th Annual Grammy Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart’s off duty wardrobe of scruffy jeans, hoodies and Converse may not be the most stylish, but she always pulls it out of the bag for red carpet events, which is why she was Glamour’s best dressed woman of 2013. From cute shorts and top combos by Osman to lace jumpsuits by Zuhair Murad, Stewart’s fashion choices always have edge.

Nicole Richie

Female First’s choice for best dressed was Nicole Richie, who has truly established her sense of style in recent years having moved on from boho chic to slick tailoring and slinky red carpet dresses. The plunging Roberto Cavalli gown she wore to the Elton John AIDS Foundation party was a perfect example of her new look.
