The Final Total..

We had a brilliant month that was fun, interesting and all for charity!

Drum roll please……OFFICE’s grand total raised for Breast Cancer Care this Breast Cancer Awareness month is £67,738.49!

Thanks to everyone who donated, got involved and contributed to such a brilliant charity that is so close to the hearts of everyone at OFFICE.

It’s been a big month at OFFICE for the whole team. We’ve all be beavering away trying to do what we can to raise money for Breast Cancer Care in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. So what exactly have we been getting up to to have raised such a brilliant amount, I hear you ask? Well, here’s a little round up for you of all the things that we’ve been doing to support the cause and how we got involved.

The Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show

We were so kindly invited to the Breast Cancer Care London fashion show, hosted at the very glamorous Grosvenor House, AJW Marriott Hotel on Park Lane. The show itself featured models who have all had a diagnosis of the disease, and we saw them strut their stuff down the catwalk in our very own OFFICE Ribbon shoe. We also heard the tragic news that the weekend before the event one of the models sadly passed away before being able to take part; Sally White.

To read more about the fashion show and see some fabulous pictures of the evening go to the blog here.

The Pink Day

In honour of such a great charity OFFICE turned pink for a day. Stores and Head Office dressed up to the nines head to toe in pink all to raise to some extra pennies.

You can check out all the pictures on Facebook here.

The Donations

We would guess that you all noticed that our brilliant store staff have been shaking the buckets in order to get you, our lovely customers, to part ways with your lose change and pennies in store. And they’ve done a brilliant job by raising a whopping £61,881!

The Shoe and Badge

The OFFICE Ribbon shoe was designed with this brilliant cause in mind. Taking inspiration from the current trends and the hot pink colour synonymous with Breast Cancer Care, we produced a beautiful heel that all women will be proud to wear. With over 70% of the shoe’s worth going straight to the charity there are no excuses good enough for why you wouldn’t buy this shoe!

Plus we added a little extra and we’re also selling the Breast Cancer Care pin on site. Walking around drenched head to toe in good deeds for all to see, just for £1 extra. The good feelings just keep rolling!

Shop the Ribbon Heel and the Badge here, there’s still time!

The Real Life Story

We were lucky enough to have the very brave Laura Owens write us a blog all about her experience of having this disease. In it we hear about the history of the charity and Laura also talks about how she felt and how she was helped by Breast Cancer Care during her treatment. Laura was one of the models in the London fashion show at the start of the month.

The Bake Sale

The secret bakers of OFFICE HQ got their bake on for a very special cake sale. With muffins, biscuits, cakes and cupcakes galore, we had a table full of delights, treats and goodies for a whole day! It was cake heaven and it was all for charity! Everything was sold for at least £1 throughout the day and we managed to raise £234.82! Thanks to everyone who got involved!

The Sample Sale

At head office we are lucky enough every now and again to be given the opportunity to buy old used samples. Scrambling up the stairs is only part of the challenge, once you get there it’s a race to find the shoes you’ve been keeping your eye on all season to see if they made it in! This month we had a big sale, with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Care. The grand total for a day of crazy sample buying was £610.67!

Thanks again to everyone that took part. Bring on next year!

The Breast Cancer Care Fashion Show

Friday, October 11th, 2013

As we all know, October is widely known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Having been proud supporters of the cause for 4 years, we at OFFICE HQ are ever keen to raise money in any way that we can. Whether it be creating a shoe, dying our hair and hosting bake sales – October is all about fundraising.

Every year, Breast Cancer Care support and host a huge fashion show in London– all of the models have either recovered from a diagnosis or are still undergoing treatment. As a supporting brand, OFFICE jumped at the chance to attend the show – which was nothing short of inspiring!

Held at the grand Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, we were greeted at the door by men in suits and huge smiles, offering welcome goodies from champagne to the chance to win a plethora of prizes (including the chance to win a years worth of shoes from OFFICE!). As the prizes were called out from generous corporate donations, the room filled with ‘oohs’, ‘ahs’ and gasps. The atmosphere soon became electric!

The grandeur didn’t stop from entrance to main hall – we knew we were in for quite the treat.

Within minutes the entire audience was captivated. With Denise Lewis guest speaking and Michael Thaxton entertaining the crowd, the wine and general good spirit flowed. We hardly noticed we were sat with complete strangers, who in the end all became friends after team games were introduced.

The show themes ricocheted from The Wild West to the swinging fifties and sixties – without a single nervous face. Women and men of all ages dominated the catwalk confidently, demanding grins and tapping feet from every single person in the room. As per usual (never the wall flower), the OFFICE Shoes presence was obvious. Glowing neon on the opening walk, our signature Ribbon heel adorned the majority of models feet receiveing cheers and applause for every proud step.

It was at this point that the very sad news was announced. After many years of battle with cancer, Breast Cancer Care model Sally White, sadly lost her life to the disease the weekend before the show. She unfortunately was never able to fulfil her dream of being a model and partaking in the show. As a member of the audience the spirit and determination amongst the remaining models was felt by all.

Seeing our shoes on stage filled us with a huge sense of pride. It really hammered home the message that Breast Cancer Care Awareness month really is crucial in the development of the charity and the support it provides to all of those affected by this disease.

Throughout October we’re asking you, our brilliant customers, to get involved by investing in a pair of OFFICE Ribbon heels – where £40 of this £55 shoe will go directly to the charity. This money will go towards helping grow an already incredible organisation that rebuilds lives every day.

An amazing night of laughter, tears and shameless dancing  was enjoyed by all in honour of the late Sally White.

Breast Cancer Care – The real life story

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

Breast Cancer Care was founded by Betty Westgate in 1973 five years after her own diagnosis of breast cancer. Following her diagnosis Betty felt really isolated and believed there was a lack of information available. She decided she wanted to use her personal experience to make a difference to the lives of others affected by this disease.

Betty’s passion for information, education and empowerment led her to run the charity on a voluntary basis from her home in Croydon, South London.  40 years later, Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to providing services and support for anyone affected by breast cancer. The charity continues to blend the expertise of some of the finest clinical nurse specialists in the country with the personal experience of thousands of men and women.

To celebrate this, Breast Cancer Care holds an annual London fashion show at which all the models are men or women who have had a breast cancer diagnosis. This year the Office pink and black patent leather shoe will feature on the catwalk.  The models will show off the most coveted stiletto of the season – the single soled pointed court with a barely there ankle strap. Retailing at £55 and with an amazing £40 donated to Breast Cancer Care from every shoe sold, Office is helping to ensure the charity can be there for the 55,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.

Laura Owens from Liverpool was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 when she was just 31 years old and will model at The Breast Cancer Care fashion show this October. She says:

“80% of people diagnosed with breast cancer are over 50, so I found it hard going to all my appointments and not meeting other young women in the same position as me. My worries about fertility, self image (I put on a lot of weight during my treatment) and new relationships were very different to the older women I was surrounded by. That’s where Breast Cancer Care came in. I attended Breast Cancer Care’s Younger Women’s Forum which changed my whole experience into something so much more positive. I met other women who were feeling the same as me (I wasn’t going mad after all!) and it prepared me for what to expect over the next few months. It is vital to talk to someone who directly understands how you feel, especially at night when you’re lying in bed with uncontrollable thoughts racing through your head (and 2 million tabs open on Google!).

“I’m really looking forward to The Breast Cancer Care fashion show. It’s been hard having to deal with ‘chemo’ hair but being involved with the catwalk show has already given me a confidence boost.”
