City Slicker

Monday, August 18th, 2014

Since the release of Wolf of Wall Street last year, the suited and booted city men have adopted the Jordan Belfort look and have taken a bit of ’80s style inspiration.

The streets of Bishopsgate and Bank have an added touch of Wall St glamour with city slickers pounding the pavements to and from work in some sharp tailoring. Long gone are the ill fitted suits, creased shirts and printed ties, with the working gentleman now taking a much more premium approach to his wardrobe.

Slim fit 3 piece suits, pocket squares and matching ties are the everyday norm, kept sleek and sophisticated with the slim Sean Chelsea Boot or slipper loafers like the Artistry and Aristocrat.

Pale, feminine colours that were popular in the ’80s, such as powder pink, baby blue and yellow are back in the form of contrast ties, pocket squares, socks and shirts.

When the days are a bit warmer or it gets a little heated in meeting, a pair of braces against a white shirt is the perfect boardroom attire. Keep it New York inspired with the Appraisal American Brogue and a double breasted navy suit.

Football Style Icons

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014

In honour of the Premier League kicking off in less than 2 weeks we thought we would pay homage to a select few football style icons as chosen by the guys and girls in OFFICE HQ.

These sporting heroes manage to turn it up both on and off the pitch with their unique style and personality and we have selected some of our favourite footwear to match with these talented chaps.

140804_FootballStyles2

1. Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos used to sport some long flowing locks and a headband but now this Spaniard has chopped off his famous barnet, grown a beard and always manages to look ruggedly cool. A fan of a Nike Air Max, these new Air Max 90’s are fresh, clean cut trainers that look good simply paired with jeans and a t-shirt.

2. Girls and guys alike never get bored of David Beckham’s timeless style and despite a few fashion blips in the ’90s this man can do no wrong. He looks good in pretty much anything he puts on but his off duty look seems to consist of loose dark jeans, shirt or tee. This classic Beckham style pairs perfectly with the Alpaca Apron shoe as it is easy to dress up or down.

3. Retired German footballer Michael Ballack never fails to look great in a full suit and these premium Poste Artistry loafers are a sleek alternative to a classic lace up. With a high shine finish it is a great shoe for formal events or matched with some nicely cut jeans when you need to look a little suave and sophisticated for dinner.

4. Argentinian bad boy Dani Osvaldo looks like he belongs on a BMX not a football pitch but his rebellious attitude only makes him cooler. He looks a little bit like a pirate and his rocker style stands out with arms covered in tattoos, lots of skull themed jewellery and his long hair tied up in a man bun. Osvaldo’s effortless style is easily matched with some desert chukka boots like the Cookie.

5. Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes is not only a great footballer but he is also a pretty good model and like Beckham, looks great most of the time. His classic modern gentleman style calls for a pair of retro Converse All Star ’70s.

Guest Blogger: Mens Summer Style – The Very Simon G

Thursday, June 26th, 2014

You know what they say lads, you can tell a lot about a man by his shoe collection. Don’t be caught short this summer with your 10-year-old tatty espadrilles, not when Office has SO much to offer us!

I know, it can be confusing as to what pair to wear with what outfit, and I do realise that some of us just like two or three pairs that are comfortable, versatile and ‘alright’ with all outfits. But why stop at two when you can have many, especially when they won’t break the bank?

simong

Here are a few tips on how to dress up your summer holiday outfits with some great footwear choices:

  1. Travel to the airport in jeans, T-shirt and these classic Converse All Stars. You could even work them with no socks and tailored shorts for a night out!
  2. There are ways to wear sandals and look cool. These Marbella sliders would look great either walking around on your city break, or down to the beach with a bright pair of shorts. Don’t EVER wear them with socks though!
  3. Tired of sunbathing? Then put on these Toms Classic Slip on’s in an Office Exclusive colourway and go for a quick shopping spree in the city.
  4. For a night out with the lads, a pair of boat shoes will do the trick. Comfy, smart/casual and wearable with literally any outfit, these Ask The Missus Igor pair are a great buy. They would be perfect for high-summer work days at home too.
  5. My favourites hands down have to be these Poste Huarache woven loafers. I love how ‘safari jungle’ they are, yet still remaining actually quite smart. And for those who don’t like their feet (like me!), these are an amazing alternative to sandals. I have them in every colour, and wear them with jeans and a shirt, shorts and a T-shirt or any of these combinations, all times of the day!

NEWGEN MEN winners announced

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

London Collections: Men is set to feature some of the brightest menswear talents in the world in January thanks to a cash injection from NEWGEN MEN which will help ten up-and-coming designers showcase their exciting and innovative Autumn/Winter 14 collections to the fashion crowd.

Among the ten will be three new designers benefiting from NEWGEN support for the first time; we take a look at the new names whose collections we’ll be coveting in the coming years.

Common

Common is made up of Swedish duo Saif Bakir and Emma Hedlund, who as well as having their own label have collaborated with a number of big name fashion houses and none other than Kanye West. Their signature style is “progressive” with “clean aesthetics” and key pieces include their bird print bomber jacket.

Diego Vanassibara

Brazilian-born Diego moved to the UK when he was 22 and is a popular man at OFFICE HQ thanks to his innovative shoe designs. His trademark piece is a hybrid shoe which is one part Oxford and one part Derby.

Speaking about his ideal client, Vanassibara described an “informed urban man with a contemporary and individual attitude to dressing”. Sound like anyone you know?

Kit Neale

Print and colour are the staples of Kit Neale’s bold collections, with trademark pieces including embroidered sweaters, wax cotton bombers and contrast print shirts. His latest collection is based on London icons, but not always ones you’d expect. Elephant and Castle and Heathrow Terminal 4 are particular inspirations.

Other recipients for next year are Agi & Sam; Astrid Andersen; Lee Roach; Martine Rose; Matthew Miller; Nasir Mazhar and Shaun Samson.

 Lee Roach

Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, commented: “Menswear is an unstoppable force in British fashion. Welcoming three new designers to the scheme this season, each of whom bring a very different aesthetic to the NEWGEN MEN line-up, is testament to the strength and diversity of the emerging menswear talent in the industry.”

Five shoes every man should own

Thursday, October 24th, 2013

Following on from our post yesterday, a bit of Googling here at OFFICE HQ revealed that the average man has 12 pairs of shoes in his wardrobe. A few shy of the average woman’s 20, but still a decent number we thought.

Today we’re taking a look at the five must-have pairs for men which should be among that 12.

Trainers

We don’t mean the scruffy trainers you go to the gym in, we’re talking about the ones you wear to do everything but exercise. Whether you opt for all-purpose Converse All Stars, vintage-inspired Puma Classics or bold and bright Nike Air Max, your trainers should be both comfortable and cool.

Desert Boots

For those occasions when trainers are bound to earn you a dirty look but you don’t fancy formal footwear, the desert boot never looks out of place.

Espadrilles

You may not be needing them for a few months but espadrilles are a staple of any stylish man’s summer wardrobe. At £15 for two pairs they’re cheap and cheerful.

Brogues

Sometimes only a formal shoe will do. Brogues will take you from the office into the evening.

Smart boots

For that suited and booted look you can‘t go wrong with either Chelsea or Chukka boots. See some of our top picks for the season in our Top 10 Men’s Boots post.

Top 10 Men’s boots

Monday, October 14th, 2013

The nights are darker, the mercury has plummeted and X Factor and Strictly have taken over Saturday night TV; it can only mean one thing – autumn is here.

We can’t do anything about the dark nights, or banish reality TV from the schedule. But we can make sure you stay warm, while looking stylish, over the next few months.

Here’s our pick of the men’s boots guaranteed to keep your toes dry and toasty.

mens-top-10_01

1. Timberland Earthkeepers – £79.99

If you’re not quite ready to ditch your trainers yet, these Timberland Earthkeepers offer the best of both worlds. The rubber cupsole and rope laces keep them looking casual and cool, but you’ll be glad of the padded ankle collar and sock lining if you get caught in the rain.

mens-top-10_02

2. Ask the Missus Carter Zip Boot – £79.99

First up from our very own brand Ask The Missus is the Carter Zip Boot. The rugged style is definitely in this season, with a host of designers sending models down the runway in boots which are both fashionable and functional. Don’t just wear them with jeans at the weekend – toughen up your suit.s

mens-top-10_03

3. Ask the Missus Gassbag Chelsea Boot –  £74.99

Chelsea boots are a fashion institution and go with anything so make sure you have a pair in your wardrobe. Our favourites come in tan leather and would look great with a navy suit.

 mens-top-10_05

4. Ask The Missus Vine Lace Boot – £99.99

These lace-up boots with a brogue-style toe walk a fine line between casual and smart, making them a must-have addition to any wardrobe. Going for a walk in the park? Yes they’ll do. A trip to the pub? Perfect. A day in the office? Why not.

 mens-top-10_07

5. Ask the Missus Keaton Brogue Boots – £84.99

These burnished black brogue boots are the ultimate in casual cool. Inspired by the runway these boots are sure to become this seasons go to style. Team with a pair of on-trend gunmetal grey trousers as seen at Neil Barratt* for a great weekend look.

mens-top-10_09

6. Ask the Missus Metz Chukka Boot – £74.99

Grey is this season’s hottest colour, with multiple designers sending models down the catwalk in head to toe silvery shades at the autumn/winter 13 shows. Choose charcoal trousers and a lighter top to pair with these grey suede boots.

mens-top-10_11 7. Poste Nevada Desert Boot – £94.99

Blue was a close second in terms of use of colour at the autumn/winter shows. If blue trousers as seen at Rake and Costume National Homme are a step too far, why not try these cobalt blue desert boots instead?

mens-top-10_128. Office Silence Chukka Tan – £79.99

Got a winter wedding to attend? These smart tan chukka boots are the perfect accompaniment to your suit. Or they’ll look great with an Oxford shirt and tweed jacket for a more casual look.

mens-top-10_13

9. Ask the Missus Morgen Desert Boot £59.99

Desert boots aren’t just for winter. Team with chunky knits and jeans during the colder the months and then pull them out again to pair with shorts in the summer. The beauty of desert boots is they look even better once they are a bit worn – BONUS!

mens-top-10_14

10. Poste Dante Boot –  £120

Last but by no means least, the Dante Strap Boots in black leather are a true classic. Simple yet stylish they’ll go with any of the top autumn/winter trends whether it’s burgundy, tweed jackets, plaid tailoring or statement overcoats.

Be inspired by TV style icons

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

If you’re stumped about what to wear over the autumn/winter season look no further than your TV for some style inspiration.

There’s a host of great shows on the schedule over the coming months, with some rather dapper leading men. So you can be planning what you are wearing on nights out even on a rare night in front of the box…

On screen now…
Office (2)

Agents of Shield

If you need a new suit for the festive season, look no further than new sci-fi show Agents of Shield for inspiration. Agent Coulson’s sharp suit looks good even as he’s battling bad guys.

To get the look, stick to a crisp white shirt with a black or navy suit and a dark tie. Sunglasses optional.

Office 1Coming soon…

Dr Who

Matt Smith was arguably the first hipster Dr Who. He burst onto the scene with his trademark tweedy jacket, bowtie, boots and floppy hair, replacing the long coat and Converse trainers rocked by David Tennant.

The new Dr’s signature style got the thumbs up from Esquire magazine, which described it as a “cross between rookie geography teacher and Hoxton clubkid”.

Next month we’ll see Matt in action as Dr Who in the 50th anniversary special. If you want to copy his look, we suggest hunting around vintage shops for the perfect tweed jacket and pairing with some Ask the Missus Keaton Brogue Boots.

Keep your eyes peeled for…

Sherlock

The long-awaited next series of Sherlock is rumoured to be hitting our screens before winter is over and it’s likely there won’t be a deerstalker in sight.

Benedict Cumberbatch will however be rocking his character’s signature Belstaff coat, probably with a scarf, some leather gloves and his trademark brogues.

The exact coat is no longer available to buy, however, there is a wide range of long wool coats on the high street after Versace, Gucci and Prada sent them down the autumn/winter 2013 catwalks.
