Style Icons – Who Inspires The OFFICE HQ Men

Friday, July 4th, 2014

It has become apparent  in recent years that men’s style is slightly overtaking the females with you lovely gentleman really pulling it out the bag with on point head to toe looks. We know from chatting to the men of OFFICE HQ that they all have a bit of a man style crush so we asked a few to nominate the famous faces that inspire their everyday wardrobe.

The Artist: – Tinie Tempah is the urban cool kid who can rock a pair of classic trainers and a snap-back but also embraces his inner geek when dressing up for formal events. His style is unique and he isn’t afraid to take a few surprising risks with colour and silhouette, he loves a bit of print and is our modern Fresh Prince.

Mr Timeless: -The one and only Mr David Beckham, it is fair to say that he has had a few bizarre fashion choices over the years but I mean who hasn’t, the late 90′s and early Noughties were a bit of a fashion blur for us all. Long gone are the curtains and sarongs and like a fine wine Becks has just got even better with age. His style is effortless and whether he is dressed up or down his wardrobe never disappoints, a fan of a 3 piece suit and some dark wash jeans with boots.

The Rebel: – The icon and movie star taken before his time is the original rebel James Dean. He only ever made 4 films and died aged 24 which is surprising considering the impact he had as both an actor and a style icon. His classic style was a white t-shirt, jeans and Converse with a black leather jacket thrown on for good measure, this look is timeless and guys will always look great in the simple look.

Mr Show Off: – Self titled Lord Disick, Scott was swallowed up in the Kardashian machine and always see as a bit of a villain yet guys cant help but love this arrogant Patrick Bateman lookalike. He is definitely the sharpest dressed in the list and since the release of The Wolf of Wall Street, the slick back 80′s style is slowly gracing the pavements of St Paul’s and Bishopsgate. With flashes of pastel here and there, this polished smart shoe wearing guy is not afraid of sporting some pink and tying a jumper round his neck. Who cares if he doesn’t own a yacht, fake it until you make it. All hail Lord Disick!

Heartbreak Kid:- The man that since Drive even men crush on as much as women, the ultimate heart breaker Ryan Gosling. His mysterious ‘I don’t care’ attitude just makes him cooler and his appearance in Drive made men suddenly crave a satin baseball jacket with an embroidered Scorpion on the back, who knew! This guy often dresses down day to day in loose t-shirts, battered jeans and woven loafers but he knows how to pull it out the bag for an occasion and makes sure he is polished head to toe.

The Chameleon: – He is talented, he is beyond cool and he is one of ours, Idris Elba or Luther as we have come to know and love. He is mostly spotted at awards ceremony’s in a crisp Tom Ford suit but Idris also oozes urban appeal when dressed down, plus he is a DJ and his name is Big Driis, legend!

Trendsetter: – We have watched Alex Turner’s style transform from grungy teenager to Dapper Dan in the last few years. His new found retro rockabilly edge with his slimmed downed 60′s suits and stacked brogues are a brave choice for most but this shy musician is steps ahead already as this alternative style will dominate AW14.

WAG Style: Then and Now #officebrazil

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

As Brazil gears up for the much anticipated World Cup, we thought we would take a trip down memory lane to when the WAGS were allowed to come and support their footballer spouses, before most were banned as too much of a distraction to our players.

The year that showed the WAGs in all their glam glory was the 2006 World Cup, held in Germany. It was all Von Dutch trucker hats, hot-pants and waist belts back then, fashions we may choose to forget but cannot deny we followed. We obsessed over the blossoming friendship of the WAG queen bee Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole, with their matching Ray Ban aviators and highlighted extensions. Back then the wives and girlfriends demanded more attention than the footballers themselves and we loved following every minute of their overindulgent existence.

The girls have come a long way since then, with Victoria Beckham an established fashion designer who never looks less than perfect. Long gone are the denim Daisy Dukes in favour of tailored trouser suits and pointed power courts. Abigail Clancy has transformed from wannabe model to chic TV presenter and Strictly champion and as the current first lady of the World Cup, Alex Curran has ditched her Liverpool boutiques for Balenciaga and Valentino.

We at OFFICE HQ cant help loving some WAG style, why not wear heels everyday and be the ultimate glamour goddess!

Cannes Film Festival Star Style Steal: Points

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

As the biggest stars in Hollywood hit the Red Carpet at Cannes Film Festival it was clear that a ladies wardrobe is not complete without a classic pointed court shoe. This summer must have is an elegant addition to a cute summer slip dress or an easy way to dress up a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans and loose tee.

Steal some star style with our collection of points, from skyscraper stilettos to sharp flats.

Festival footwear icons

Thursday, April 17th, 2014

The Ferris wheel and palm trees of Coachella have officially kicked off the festival season in style. Celebrities descended on Palm Springs looking every inch the festi pros with their statement sandals and rock ‘n’ roll-inspired looks. Follow our favourite fashion acts and see how they headline their footwear.

Kate Moss
Three words sum up supermodel Kate Moss’s festival style: Rock Chick Extraordinaire. She single-handedly started the denim cut-off and wellie boot combo in 2005 that’s now become a festival-goer uniform. Kate’s always been faithful to her Hunter boots – no fancy colourways or prints, just dark neutrals. If the weather doesn’t require rubber soles, work her look with strappy gladiators. Stick to black leather for extra edge.

RiRi’s backstage gear is a departure from her risqué stage outfits. She still rocks high-octane separates and accessories but pares down pieces with beanie hats and leather trainers for a streetwear vibe. Channel off-duty Rihanna with Vans skater shoes. If you’d rather flaunt your toes, get a statement pedicure and be inspired by RiRi’s gold bling with a pair of glossy metallic sandals to decorate your feet.

Rita Ora
Rita doesn’t shy away from bold colour, whether she’s on stage or band spectating. Toughen up a chic dress with a pair of heavy boots, just as she did with her sunset-inspired Stella McCartney dress last year at Glastonbury. Switch from classic black to patent blue Dr. Martens to tap into Rita’s rainbow style. And never miss a festival act with a pair of Nike runners – the brighter the better.

Jourdan Dunn
Off-duty models have been nailing the normcore trend for years – think low-key, everyday fashion made fabulous by the person wearing them. Jourdan Dunn flaunts her endless pins to the max in teeny cut-off shorts and high-tops. Achieve the same effect with Converse classics and choose a bright colour to swerve mud splashes. For a more feminine vibe, try matching staple denim shorts to your footwear with Toms’ crochet slip-ons.

Harry Styles
Keith Richards seems to be Harry’s style muse right now and that means lots of black, super-skinny trousers, and head scarves. Style yourself like Styles by steering clear of crisp white trainers in favour of stripped-back black and minimal branding. For something smarter, try a suede Chelsea boot – still just as comfy for sprinting away from groupies.

Red carpet roundup

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

This week on the red carpet it has been all about monochrome, flirty flapper dresses and of course some amazing shoes. We take a closer look at what the celebs have been wearing at some of this week’s A-list events, including the InStyle The Best of British Talent Party and the premiere of the Lego Movie.

Sarah Harding

Sarah Harding showed us how to do head-to-toe prints perfectly at the Instyle event, teaming a black bird-patterned suit with a white shirt featuring a similar print. She added a splash of colour to the monochrome ensemble with a bold slash of red lipstick and a neon orange clutch. We’d have maybe been tempted to ditch the plain black heels in favour of something a bit brighter too…

Elizabeth Banks

Elizabeth Banks changed no fewer than four times on Wednesday as she promoted the Lego Movie in New York, but our favourite look was the flirty mini dress she wore to a screening of the film. The periwinkle blue number by David Koma featured a bold, glittering pattern on the top half and a kicked out skirt. She teamed the ensemble with some Jimmy Choo sandals and a Rauwolf clutch.

Naomie Harris

Naomie Harris brightened up the red carpet at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards in a stunning pale yellow beaded flapper dress by Naeem Khan. She teamed the Great Gatsby-esque dress with some suitably 20’s-style t-bar silver sandals and a metallic clutch and wore her hair in soft waves to her shoulders.

Lily Aldridge

The prize for most dramatic dress of the week goes to Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge who glided into the amfAR Gala in New York in a futuristic white dress by La Marque. The flowing gown featured a daringly low sweetheart neckline and billowing sleeves, with a full floor length skirt. Letting the dress do the talking, she kept accessories simple, adding just an open-ended Marc Alary choker, which we’ll definitely be searching for a high street version of.

Mollie King

Mollie King looked the epitome of elegance at the Instyle bash in a black and white lace print satin Dolce and Gabbana dress and black court shoes. She matched the dress with a super sleek up do and some barely there make up for a look that was effortlessly perfect and certainly provoked the green eyed monsters in us here at HQ!

90s fashion inspired by Elmo

Friday, January 31st, 2014

We read somewhere recently that it was Elmo from Sesame Street’s birthday next week. Perhaps it came to us in some sort of nostalgic dream or the little guy is actually turning a year older. From a brief look on Google it seems he would be older than most of us. Yup, our little red furry friend is in his forties! What a trooper.

Many of us here used to tune in to Sesame Street straight after nursery school without fail. There were very important things that had to be taken care of before viewing commenced though;

1. sandwich made expertly by my Mummy, crusts off of course. (jam or crisp filled were personal faves)

2. Plastic cup of squash in hand

3. Chocolate biscuit for after (Breakaway’s or Blue Ribbons only please)

Three magic steps and the nations childern were ready to tune in for an hour of pure bliss, usually followed by a nap. Man we wish I could go back to that for a day!

Ok, before you think We’ve completely lost the plot, it really did get us here at HQ thinking about how fashion has come right back around. Bold trainers, high waisted jeans, leggings and cropped tees are the reserve of the most fashion focused girls.

Here’s our Sesame Street fashion inspiration that you can wear now…

Kate Moss: Fab at 40

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Arguably one of the most famous supermodels in the world, Kate Moss, turns 40 today, not that she looks it of course!

Since being propelled to fame at the age of 14 when she was discovered by Sarah Doukas of Storm Model Management at JFK Airport, Kate has rarely been out of the limelight, whether she’s fronting fashion campaigns, sashaying down the catwalk, designing her own clothing line or just hitting the headlines. To celebrate Ms Moss’s birthday we’ve taken a look back at some of our favourite moments from her decade-spanning career.

The boho years

Kate has gone through a lot of fashion phases, but the most enduring one was surely boho chic. The hippie-ish style which included furry gilets, floaty skirts and coin belts was widely copied in the mid-2000s. However, few could carry it off as well as Kate could.

Festival chic

Speaking of looks only Kate can carry off, her infamous festival attire of shorts, waistcoats and Hunter wellies remains ‘the’ style to emulate if you’re heading to Glastonbury.

Designing for Topshop

Kate turned designer in 2007, creating her first hugely popular line for Topshop. The 50 designs were soon snapped up, with certain pieces selling for a huge premium on eBay. Kate continued to collaborate with Topshop until 2011 and is currently working on her next collection, due to launch in April, after a three-year break.

Her birthday parties

While Kate has opted for a subdued celebration on Necker Island for the big 4-0, in the past her parties have been the stuff of legends. Johnny Depp took to the stage at the Viper Rooms to celebrate her 21st, her 30th was a The Beautiful and the Damned-themed bash and when she turned 34 she partied for 18 hours straight. Her 35th topped them all though, with Kate and pals celebrating for four days straight, prompting complaints from her Camden neighbours.

Her fairytale wedding

When Kate finally settled down with Jamie Hince she did it in style. Vintage Galliano dress – check. Fifteen bridesmaids – check. Guest list which included the likes of Naomi Campbell, Anna Wintour and Jade Jagger – check.

On Top Feature

Tuesday, January 14th, 2014

Have you seen Grazia today? One of our favourite styles ‘On Top’ has a whole page all to itself! We love the vibrancy of these new prints so we thought we’d ask Rebecca from our design team how she is going to wear hers;

“There’s a lot of animal print around for Spring/Summer, but what we love about this version of our favourite On Top style, is the unexpected bright colours and graphic print. I’ll be wearing these statement shoes with boyfriend jeans and a grey marl t-shirt to really make them pop, but equally they wouldn’t look out of place on a beach in Miami.”

Thanks for the style tips Rebecca! Miami might have to wait after our Christmas spending but I think paired with boyfriend jeans we’ll be on to a winner.

Red carpet round-up

Friday, January 10th, 2014

We may only be a couple of weeks into the new year, but a host of celebs have already shown off some stunning gowns on the red carpet.

We take a closer look at some of our favourites.

Margot Robbie

Wolf Of Wall Street star Margot Robbie opted for a modest red silk dress at the film’s London première this week. The scarlet two-tone number by Oscar de la Renta featured a high neckline and long sleeves, but a knee-high slit at the front and the nipped-in waist kept it on the right side of frumpy. We also loved her gold stilettos.

Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera modelled an elegantly simple gown at the 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards in LA. The beige, white and black Michael Kors dress combined a number of trends including body-con, colour blocking and a dipped hem. The look was completed with a stylish gold necklace, some strappy Stuart Weitzman shoes and new honey-coloured locks.

Paloma Faith

Paloma Faith was all about vintage inspired pastels at the Burberry Prorsum Menswear show in London. Her lace Burberry shirt dress was in one of this season’s hottest colours; pink, while her mint green coat and metallic accessories complemented it perfectly.

Paloma also rocked a new hair-do, ditching her trademark red locks in favour of a cool blonde look.

Allison Williams

Girls star Allison Williams has expressed an interest in following in Jennifer Aniston’s footsteps as America’s sweetheart and we think she is well on her way after wowing in a series of gorgeous dresses recently.

One of our favourites is this white satin cocktail dress with crystal and sequin embellishment which she wore for the Girls series three launch. The soft pleat skirt and classic boat neck were timelessly elegant but the stunning detailing ensured it was right on trend.

Celebs in OFFICE: 2013

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

When flicking through our favourite monthly and weekly mags or even noticing the odd tweet, there’s really nothing better than spotting a celeb in a pair of our shoes. There have been so many ‘celeb in OFFICE’ sightings over 2013 that we thought we should pick out a couple of our favourites.

First up we have Fearne Cotton. She had a great year, co hosting Children in Need, having a baby and of course being sighted in some fabulous strappy high heels, otherwise known as Reckless.

Second on our list is Mollie King. As one of the Saturday’s she has glitzy party after another. For one in particular she rolled up in our Reim high heel. We love the peep toe take on a classic court!

InStyle Best Of British Talent Party - Arrivals

Nicole Scherzinger is our number 3 choice of star celeb in OFFICE picks. She was spotted as she made her way into the Celebrity Juice studios sporting the classic and perfectly formed ‘Risky Business’ heel.

'Celebrity Juice' TV show, London, Britain - 16 Oct 2013

Number 4 is Miss Pixie Lott. We love her retro look with her 60′s inspired peplum top, shorts and scarf print platform combo at the Radio music live event. Pixie wore the ‘Letterboxplatform heels.

Radio City Live

Last but not least is the country singing pop princess, Taylor Swift. With dozens of awards and famous boyfriends a plenty, she is one of the most glamourous celebs we’ve spotted in 2013 sampling a pair of our own. Here we saw her rocking the ‘Oppose‘ heeled sandal.
