MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2014

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

It was best foot forward for a trio of trendy-shoed stars at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Sunday’s star-studded occasion saw Taylor Swift, Beyonce and our very own Ed Sheeran in the limelight at the prestigious awards in California.

Beyonce

Beyonce stole the show as she not only won the night’s top gong, the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, she belted up a short set of songs from her most famous videos, including XO. The ultimate diva wore a sparkly leotard, fishnet tights and stunning black ankle boots. She played a 15-minute set and received her award from husband Jay Z and their baby girl Blue Ivy.

Ed Sheeran

The 23-year-old Halifax-born Kiss Me star found a willing piggy back from director Emil Nava and beat off Eminem, John Legend and Pharrell to take the male video crown for Sing. He appeared all in black, including a shirt, jeans and classic Air Jordan 5 trainers.

Promspiration

Friday, June 20th, 2014

As school, college and uni days come to an end its all about the prom, summer ball or school dance, basically the most formal event you will have pre marriage.

Its all tears and tantrums over finding the perfect dress to wear let alone the nights you stay up praying that you’ll have a date. Just like Cinderella it is crucial you find the perfect shoe to match your princess gown, whether it be some glittery Les Ballet flats, Barbie style pink On Tops stilettos or a pair of classic strappy Jeopardy heels.

Unknown

Its true that American’s do it better, with our teenage years filled with the prom ideals from Grease, Pretty in Pink and Never Been Kissed. But saying that the British girls and guys have been turning it out in recent years, hiring the obligatory limo, receiving a corsage and making sure every detail is perfect.

Survival tips for prom:

If you are met with the nightmare of another girl in the same dress, style it out! Ask for a picture together and make it funny, do not cry and get angry in the privacy of a bathroom!

Avoid red drinks

Never take your heels off…..ever!!

Don’t tell your Art teacher that you fancy them (OFFICE HQ true story)

Hopefully you will have the time of your life at your prom, taking your dream date, dancing the night away and swirling your dress around like a Disney princess. However if it doesnt quite go to plan, these stories gathered from OFFICE HQ may cheer you up.

Windsor Castle Charity Dinner

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

It is his wife the Duchess of Cambridge who is a keen follower of fashion, but last night Prince William found himself surrounded by some of the most stylish names around as he hosted a gala dinner to celebrate the work of The Royal Marsden Hospital, of which he is president.

The event, was sponsored by fashion royalty Ralph Lauren who is funding a new breast cancer centre at the hospital. It saw stars of the stage, screen and catwalk gathering to enjoy a lavish three-course dinner in the grand St George’s Hall.

With the event being held in such a spectacular venue, it was only fitting that the attendees, who included Benedict Cumberbatch, Helena Bonham Carter, Kate Moss, Cate Blanchett and Emma Watson, pulled out all the stops with their outfits.

We take a look at some of the best dressed from the night.

Cate Blanchett

Hollywood actress Cate was one of the many guests modelling a Ralph Lauren design and she looked the epitome of elegance in an ivory, asymmetric evening gown. The simplicity of the gown was offset by a pair of statement chandelier earrings, also from Ralph Lauren, while a slick of red lipstick finished off the look.

Jessica Michibata

Duke hosts cancer hospital benefit

Jessica’s stunning red gown certainly ensured she stood out from the crowd, with many of the other guests sticking to more muted colour palettes. The dramatic strapless dress featured an embellished bodice and a flowing hemline.

Emma Watson

Duke hosts cancer hospital benefit

Emma Watson’s ensemble seems to have divided fashion critics, but we are huge fans of the sophisticated outfit, which ensured Emma looked a far cry from schoolgirl wizard Hermione Granger. The crisp white shirt paired with an artfully draped floor-length grey skirt was classic Ralph Lauren at his finest.

Kate Moss

Duke hosts cancer hospital benefit

Kate rarely puts a fashion foot wrong because she sticks to what she knows best and this occasion saw her reaching into her bulging closet for a classic black dress. However, the model showed black doesn’t have to be boring, thanks to the daring thigh-high split and sheer detailing on the dress.

Helena Bonham Carter

Duke hosts cancer hospital benefit

Helena Bonham Carter is a repeat offender on worst dressed lists thanks to her eccentric style, but on this occasion she was definitely one of the best dressed. Her strapless navy Ralph Lauren number was elegant, but the cascading skirt of ruffles and mish-mash of materials added intrigue.

Men’s OFFscars

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

offscars_header

No matter what your stance on the Oscars, they certainly do get people talking. The girls love the fashion drama…wait, so do the boys. Did you see Pharrell Williams’ short tux suit? The jury’s still out with us on that one for ourselves but boy can that man pull it off. Jared Leto and the man of the moment Matthew McConaughey tag teamed in matching white tux jackets, black trousers and black high shine shoes. Classic winning combo for two winners with Matthew McConaughey picking up ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ and Jared Leto securing ‘Best Actor in Supporting Role’, both for Dallas Buyers Club. Not one to miss out on topical conversation, we have decided to host our very own OFFICE Oscars. Welcome to the all new OFFscars (sorry it’s a tenuous link but we are kind of loving the cringey nature of it, just role with it).  We know you can’t wait to find out who won, so in the spirit of the Oscars, the winners are…

Women’s OFFscars

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

offscars_header

The Academy Awards are over for another year and they didn’t disappoint as far as fashion was concerned. We still feel a bit sorry for poor Leo missing out on a gong but Matthew McConaughey seriously deserved ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ for Dallas Buyers Club. His performances of late have been nothing short of spellbinding, I mean have you started watching True Detective yet? We have a slight obsession.

All of this appreciation has got us here at HQ thinking about how we could award something a lot more close to our hearts…shoes! As silly as it sounds, we have decided to rank our favourite shoes, boots and trainers in the first of its kind, the OFFICE Oscars – OFFscars. Cheesy, yes. Unabashed Oscars tie in, yes. Favourite shoes…yes, yes, YES!!!
Without further adieu, the winners of the OFFscars are…(cue drum rolls and applause)

And the Oscar for best outfit goes to…

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Simple and elegant were the buzzwords at last night’s Academy Awards ceremony, with the best dressed actresses opting for sophisticated, classy gowns, rather than the overblown looks we’ve seen on the red carpet in recent years.

Leading the way were American Hustle stars Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, who may not have picked up any awards, but certainly made it onto a few best dressed lists. J-Law’s red Dior gown with peplum detail was the exact opposite of her frothy (but equally stunning) dress from last year. But while the dress may have been less fussy, that didn’t stop her taking another tumble, this time on the red carpet as she exited her car.

Amy’s tuxedo-inspired navy gown by Gucci was sleek and sophisticated and oozed Hollywood glamour when teamed with statement earrings and an elegant up do.

Speaking of Hollywood glamour, Kate Hudson certainly looked like a screen siren as she walked the red carpet in a beaded Versace number with a daringly deep v neck and cape detail. Her hair was styled to one side in soft waves and dramatic smoky eyes finished off the look.

Sandra Bullock also missed out on a gong last night, but can rest easy that she at least looked like a winner in navy blue Alexander McQueen. The silky strapless number was arguably the most flattering dress of the evening thanks to the sweetheart neckline, clever ruching at the waist and soft folds of the skirt which ended in a short train.

After much debate, we’ve also decided to include Anna Kendrick among our best dressed. The Pitch Perfect star has come in for some criticism over her J Mendel dress with some sources describing it as over fussy. And while we agree that the sheer black asymmetrical dress with floral detailing does have rather a lot going on, we think she pulled it off. Plus there was a lot to love about the dress, including the eye-catching criss-cross detailing at the back.

Last, but by no means least, we couldn’t have a best dressed list which didn’t feature the woman of the night, best actress winner Cate Blanchett. The Blue Jasmine star sparkled in a nude Armani Prive gown with a princess-style flared skirt and plenty of on-trend embellishment. The dramatic drop earrings complemented the ensemble perfectly and we’ll be hunting for a similar (and obviously more cost effective!) pair on the high street.

Our favourite Oscars dresses

Thursday, February 27th, 2014

We are counting down the days until the Oscars on Sunday. We can’t wait to see whether Leo DiCaprio finally scoops Best Actor, whether J-Law and Nicholas Hoult will walk the red carpet together and of course, who makes the best (and worst) dressed lists.

To while away the time while we wait for this year’s Academy Awards, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite ever Oscars dresses. Do you agree with our top picks?

Hilary Swank in Guy Laroche

Hilary Swank certainly looked a million dollars in the navy backless Guy Laroche number she wore to pick up her Best Actress Oscar for her role in Million Dollar Baby in 2007. The sleek and sophisticated gown was a far cry from the ball dress style ensembles many Best Actress nominees opt for and propelled Swank to style icon status.

Vanity Fair aftershow party - Morton's - Melrose Avenue

Michelle Williams in Vera Wang

You can always rely on Michelle Williams to wear something quirky and the bright yellow Vera Wang number she modelled at the 2006 Academy Awards was a breath of fresh air. We love the artful draping at the front, the ruffled neckline and the slick of red lipstick Williams finished the look off with.

Vanity Fair Post Oscars Party - Mortons Restaurant

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

Finding an Oscars dress when you’re pregnant must be a tricky task, but Natalie Portman pulled it off with her usual style and elegance in this stunning Rodarte number. The plum-coloured, off-the-shoulder gown hugged her curves perfectly.

The 83rd Academy Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Gwyneth’s pale pink Ralph Lauren dress, which she wore when she won her Best Actress Oscar often features on best dress lists, but we prefer the icy white Tom Ford gown she wore in 2012. The column style flatters her slender frame and it looked modern and elegant. Plus, who wouldn’t want a dress that comes with its own cape?

The 84th Academy Awards - Arrivals - Los Angeles

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Jennifer Lawrence may have fallen out of love with her Dior gown after she tripped up on her way to collect her statuette at last year’s ceremony, but we certainly didn’t. The dramatic pale pink dress oozed Hollywood glamour and made Jen look like a true star. We wonder if she’ll wear something a bit easier to walk in this year though…

Celebrating the best of British

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

A Who’s Who of Brit music royalty will be pulling on their finery and heading to the O2 tonight for the Brit Awards; the nation’s annual celebration of the best music produced here on home soil.

Those lucky enough to be attending (and those of us glued to our TV screens at home) will be treated to a host of performances, some long and emotional acceptance speeches and undoubtedly some of the ‘whaaaaat’ moments that the Brits have become known for over the years, while host James Corden tries to control proceedings.

We take a closer look at what we can expect from this evening’s shenanigans.

Who’s playing?

As is to be expected, the best of British will be taking to the stage at the O2, with Sheffield’s finest Arctic Monkeys opening the event. Bastille, whose Bad Blood was the biggest selling album of last year, will also perform, as will dance duo Disclosure, British Female Solo Artist nominee Ellie Goulding and Rudimental, who are up for three gongs.

 brits

From Right to left: James Corden, Ellie Goulding, Arctic Monkeys

The international music scene will be represented by Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Lorde and Pharrell Williams, while the rumour mill has hinted that none other than Beyonce may put in a surprise appearance.

Who’ll pick up prizes?

Arctic Monkeys are the hot favourites to pick up some of the night’s biggest gongs including British Album of the Year and British Group, but they could face stiff competition from Bastille in both categories.

David Bowie is tipped to pick up the Best British Male prize over the likes of Jake Bugg and Tom Odell, if he does win, it would make him the oldest person to ever take home a trophy from the event.

Ellie Goulding seems a dead cert to take home the British Female Solo Artist statuette, and our money would be on One Direction to take home at least one of the three prizes they’re up for, otherwise the Brits organisers may face a backlash from angry tweens!

Only one artist can head to the ceremony confident; Sam Smith already has the Critics’ Choice award in the bag.

Will there be a scandal?

It wouldn’t be the Brits unless there was a headline grabbing scandal. From Jarvis Cocker bursting on stage while Jacko performed Earth Song to Chumbawamba throwing iced water over John Prescott, Robbie Williams challenging Liam Gallagher to a fight and James Corden interrupting Adele’s acceptance speech, every year something eventful happens.

This year, our money’s on the Arctic Monkeys to provide the drama. The band boycotted the ceremony in 2006 and openly mocked the organisers in 2008 when they collected a gong dressed as country squires. They’ll have plenty of opportunities to cause mischief this year, as they’ll be performing and are the favourites to pick up a couple of awards.

Best-dressed men on the red carpet

Friday, January 24th, 2014

There have undeniably been some gorgeous gowns showcased on the red carpet in recent weeks but it’s not just the women who have been strutting their stuff. We take a look at some of the male A-listers who have donned their sharpest suits this awards season.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leo always looks sharp and his appearance at the Critics’ Choice Film Awards was no exception. The Wolf of Wall Street star kept things casual with a crisp open-necked white shirt and no tie under his black suit.

Matthew McConaughey

Oscar nominee Matthew McConaughey has been pulling out all the stops at recent award ceremonies.  First there was the forest green Dolce & Gabbana three-piece tux at the Golden Globes, then a textured houndstooth tuxedo by Lanvin for the Critics’ Choice Film Awards. We can’t wait to see what he wears for the Academy Awards.

Jared Leto

We can always rely on Jared Leto to put a quickly twist on red carpet attire. His slim fit Dior suit for the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) was paired with a white bow tie and a polka dot pocket square. After tying his ombre locks back in a messy bun at the Golden Globes, he chose to wear his hair loose over his shoulders.

James Marsden

James Marsden added a retro twist to his red carpet ensemble at the SAG Awards, adding a paisley pocket square and sharp bow tie to his midnight blue Valentino suit.

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper proved you can never go wrong with a classic black tuxedo at the SAG Awards and looked extremely dapper in his Gucci suit paired with David Yurman cufflinks, IWC watch and some designer stubble.
